Hungry for Haiti Event
Past members of “The Common,” a group of local citizens who volunteered at Habitat for Humanity in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina and a few other Sun Region volunteer events, are back to pitch in and help earthquake victims in Haiti.
With the help of the Yucatan Grill in Seal Beach, “Hungry for Haiti” plans began.
“The help and support has been incredible,” said member John Hartford. “Friends and neighbors have offered their time, money and many amazing raffle donations almost immediately upon hearing of the plans.
After many discussions, UNICEF (the United Nations Children’s Fund) was the charity chosen to donate to, as many children have been injured, lost their families, their homes and all of their possessions in this earthquake.”
Hungry for Haiti will be held from 3 to 9 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 1, at Yucatan Grill at 550 Pacific Coast Hwy. in Seal Beach. The Yucatan Grill will donate 20 percent of the night’s profits to UNICEF’s Haiti Relief Fund.
There will also be live music and raffle prizes from local shops, restaurants and artists. Sponsors include Yucatan Grill, Mahe, O’Malleys, Volcom, Long Beach Marina Sportfishing, Big Fish, Body Glove, Katin and G2fit.com.
All of the raffle ticket money will be donated to UNICEF’s Haiti Relief Fund.
Anyone that would like to help, but cannot make it on Feb. 1, can stop by the Yucatan Grill any time and make a donation in the collection jar as well as bid on some of the raffle prizes that will be available Feb. 1. For other information or ways to donate you can contact jhartford6@gmail.com.
