After a scoreless first half, the Los Alamitos High girl’s soccer team got two goals to defeat Long Beach Poly, 2-1, in a pool play game of the Aliso Cup Tournament at Laurel High last Thursday.
The win got the Griffins into the President’s Cup bracket, where they followed that with a 1-0 win over Yorba Linda on Saturday. The Griffins would drop their final game of the tournament on a penalty-kick shootout after playing Santiago of Corona to a 2-2 tie in regulation.
The Griffins have started the season on a roller-coaster ride having gone 2-3-1 in their first six games. The Griffins returned a core of seven players who saw significant playing time last year. Head coach Steve Soler praised the team’s improvement.
“Every game we just have to get better and better,” Soler said. “We just have to get everyone on the same page,” Soler said.
The Griffins will host Santa Margarita Wednesday at 3 p.m. and play in the Mater Dei Tournament on Thursday against Long Beach Wilson at 4 p.m.
