Seal Beach Leisure World’s governing body, the Golden Rain Foundation Board of Directors, reorganized last week. Tim Bolton was one of five new officers to win elections to board offices at the agency’s Tuesday, June 12, Annual Meeting.
Bolton was elected president of the Golden Rain Foundation, which manages Leisure World for the 16 mutual benefit corporations that make up the cooperative retirement community. The non-profit GRF oversees a community of approximately 9,000 residents, more than a third the population of Seal Beach. The gated community covers two City Council districts.
Bolton confirmed reports by Leisure World resident and Foundation critic David Lyon that the vote was 12 to 6 in favor of Bolton over incumbent Tom McCabe.
The other winners were Mike Supple, who was elected vice president; Ronde Winkler was elected corporate secretary. Dennis Craig was elected treasurer and Carole Damoci was elected deputy secretary.
Lyon described the five winners as reformers. However, Bolton told the Sun he did not come into the office with any particular ideology in mind. He said he came in with the idea of conducting business the best way he could.
He said his election meant the duties of the Golden Rain Foundation president would be would be carried out in a fair manner and, hopefully, with some astuteness.
“I can tell you I never came in as a reform slate,” Bolton said.
“I’m not going o speak for any other officers,” he said.
He said that if he is perceived that way, that perception was put there by someone else.
Asked if he was surprised to be elected, Bolton said yes and no.
“I was surprised when I was being asked months ago,” he said.
So far, Bolton is happy with his new job.
“I’ve been doing this for three-and-a-half days,” he said. “Ask me (again) in three months.”
