Girl Scouts throughout Orange County will sell cookies for their annual fundraiser in front of local businesses during the coming weeks .
According to Gail Ellis-Olds of the organization’s local officials, the Girl Scout cookie program is the largest girl-led business in the world, providing girls with hands-on experiences in goal setting, decision making, money management, people skills and business ethics.
“Many successful women credit selling Girl Scout cookies as their first positive business experience, and the lessons begin early,” Ellis Olds said.
One may be Mackenzie (last name withheld), a 12-year-old Orange County Girl Scout, who has been selling cookies for seven years.
She sold more than 1,000 boxes in the 2009 sale and 700 during the 2010 sale. An important ingredient for her success has been setting goals with her troop, Cadette Troop 67.
Philanthropy and community service are integral aspects of the cookie program. All cookie proceeds in Orange County stay in Orange County.
