Work on the 2012 Seal Beach 5/10K Race is underway and the theme for the upcoming event is set. This year’s theme for the upcoming event on Saturday April 21 will be “Wild About Running.”
The committee chose the theme for its representation of the elements they feel best exemplify the race, our youth community and Seal Beach. Race day has always had a special place for kids and that place is the Kid’s 1K Fun Run and Fun Zone. On Monday March 12, awards were made at McGaugh School for the Fun Run’s T-shirt logo design. It all started 10 years ago and gives the local elementary children a chance to participate more in the Kids Fun Run and to raise early awareness of the event.
This year, 47 entries were received that responded to the 2012 race, and the children submitted their best interpretation of the theme in drawing form and the Race Committee votes on the submissions.
This year’s winning entry, shown here, was submitted by second grade McGaugh Elementary School student Valerie Pincek. She won a brand new beach cruiser from Main Street Cyclery.
Second place went to Liberty Osti, also a McGaugh second grader, who actually won last year’s contest. She will take home a boogie board donated by Alternative Surf. Third place was awarded to Hannah DeSoto, a McGaugh third grader, who received a $50 gift certificate from Harbour Surfboards.
“All the drawings were wonderful.” said Kid’s Run Coordinating Director Michelle Samuelson. “The committee had a tough job to narrow it down to the top three. All the kids who participated should be commended for their great work.”
