The 8th Annual Fish For The Force Event draws more than 50 fifth-grade students from St. Bonaventure School in Huntington Beach where they learned how to fish. The event was recently held at Chris Carr Park near Springdale and Heil. The Huntington Beach Police Department partnered with California Department of Fish and Wildlife, Huntington Beach Fishing and Recreation Club and The Kiwanis Club of Huntington Beach to bring outdoor experiences to youth.

Huntington Beach Fishing and Recreation Club member Bill Saksa said: “There is nothing more rewarding as teaching kids how to fish. You can see the excitement all the kids had and adults who were helping.”

Kiwanis Club of Huntington Beach President John Etheridge said: “The event was a rousing success as we cooked about 150 Costco all beef hotdogs, distributed waters and chips, and offered lollypops for a sweet treat. The club was well-represented by Members Domenic Iorfino, Art Hovsepian, Ray Clapp, Jeff Warnock, Michele Briggs and Big Joe Hriesh. The Kiwanis Club bought the food, and the HB Police and Community Foundation furnished the porta potties and all of the fish bait. Our HBPD team is incredible for putting this event on, and for allowing the Kiwanis Club to participate! Special thanks to Sargent Jason Melchau for doing all he does”.

Huntington Beach City Historian Jerry Person said: “It’s so great to see both adults and kids together having a good time. This is something that the kids will remember all their lives.”
