Seal Beach Mayor Michael Levitt has placed the issue of planting ficus trees on Main Street on the City Council agenda for Monday, March 26.
Levitt cast the sole dissenting vote against the plan at the Feb. 27 City Council meeting.
“I am so much against this move by the Council to plant ficus on Main Street, that I’ve added a Council agenda item to the next Council meeting to fight the Council’s decision,” Levitt said in a Friday, March 16, e-mail to the Sun “I have a feeling that there will be an enthusiastic hue-and-cry at the meeting against the ficus.”
Councilwoman Ellery Deaton has defended the council’s decision to plant ficus on Main Street. She submitted an opinion piece defnding the decision to the Sun newspaper.
