More than people gathered in Los Alamitos at the Youth Center last Tuesday to celebrate the conclusion of its annual campaign, titled “Kids4Kids.”
Each spring since 1997, the Youth Center has conducted a Community Support Campaign, a month-long effort by community volunteers to spread the word of the work accomplished by the Youth Center and solicit pledges of support. This year under the leadership of Theresa Murphy, of Precious Life Shelter, the Community Support Campaign raised over $110,000. A new part of the campaign is a way the children of the Youth Center participate personally to give back to the program. This year they raised $2,000.
The Youth Center is proud of the role it plays in the lives of young people and their families. Children involved in extracurricular activities generally perform better in school and stay out of trouble.
Currently many families are facing financial difficulties and many may be forced to reduce their children’s participation in social and recreational programs to meet their current budget.
“We are here to help children and provide a safe place they can come to be involved and out of trouble” said Lina Lumme, Youth Center director.
There’s something at the Youth Center for every child from as young as 2 years to as old as 18. Registration is open now for: Rossmoor Park Summer Day Camp (ages 5 – 12), Teen Camp (ages 12 – up), Gymnastics, Music, Day Camp on district furlough days, After School Program and Learning Center. To register for any of these programs visit www.youthcenter.org.
