Drunk driver crashes Seal Beach DUI checkpoint

On Friday July 5, 2013 the Seal Beach Police Department  arrested a man for DUI after he crashed a parked police car. The collision occurred about 15 minutes after officers had closed the checkpoint. No one was injured as a result of the crash.

On Friday July 5, police staffed a DUI & Driver’s License checkpoint at Seal Beach Blvd & Adolpho Lopez, in the northbound lanes. The checkpoint opened at 6:00 PM.

Approximately 1700+ cars made their way through the checkpoint. 3 cars were towed for driver’s license violations, and two (2) DUI arrests were attributed to the checkpoint.

At about 1:00 AM traffic was waning so the checkpoint was closed. Seal Beach Police personnel began to break down the checkpoint. At about 1:15 AM a White Honda Fit that was travelling N/B on Seal Beach Blvd nearly struck an electronic sign that was on a trailer about 1/8 of a mile from the checkpoint itself. The driver swerved around the trailer, and back into the #3 lane. He then collided into a parked Seal Beach Police unit that had all of its emergency equipment activated.

The driver was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence. He was identified as Jonathon Radin 37, of Huntington Beach. Radin was booked at the Seal Beach Jail for misdemeanor DUI. He was later released on his own recognizance. Police plan another DUI checkpoint for Friday, July 12.
