Coffee Chat: Finance Director and me at Bogart’s Coffee House
In addition to the budget workshops, Vikki Beatley, our finance director, will be with me at Bogart’s Coffee House on Wednesday, June 18, from 4:30 to 6 p.m.
Vikki will be there to answer any questions you might have about the state of our budget and finances.
As always, though, we want to discuss whatever is important to you. I hope that by holding the coffee early in the evening everyone who wants to come will be available to attend.
Centennial planning
The city hosted a centennial kickoff meeting on April 16 at 4 p.m. in the Council Chambers.
A quick overview was given of the centennial plan and some background information given on what other cities in the area have done to celebrate their centennials.
The meeting was a great starting point for the upcoming celebrations. There will be many opportunities to get involved as all of 2015 will be filled with fun activities celebrating all that makes us small town Seal Beach.
Zoeter Field has been rehabilitated
The rehab of Zoeter field is complete and looks great. Fifty tons of new infield material was dropped and leveled to create a safe playing surface for adults and kids. Also, new turf was added to the outside perimeter of the field to create a safe transition from outfield to infield.
Why not join a softball team and enjoy the new field? Call the recreation department at 431-2527 x 1344.
Coyote Watch. They live among us.
The city has been placing signs warning residents and visitors that coyotes are out and about. Educating ourselves about what to do to keep coyotes out of our neighborhoods is imperative to getting them to leave the area.
Last November the city held a community meeting with wild urban animal experts to see what can be done.
A recap of that meeting along with other information I’ve collected is on my website at: http://www.ellerydeaton.com/coyotes-they-live-among-us/
Shoreline activity guide
The Seal Beach Summer Shoreline activity guide is now available on the city website and hard copies will be available within the next week at all city facilities.
This year’s cover is a tribute to the Seal Beach Lions Club for their 75 years of dedication to the Seal Beach Community. Also, the back cover of the brochure provides residents a new section called Seal Beach at a Glance. This one-page marketing tool provides a number of facts and contacts for residents.
Ellery Deaton is the mayor of Seal Beach and the City Councilwoman from District One, which includes Old Town and Surfside.
