The Seal Beach deputy city clerk has resigned, City Manager Jill Ingram confirmed on Monday, Sept. 17.
Thursday, Sept. 13, was Anita Chapanond’s last day as the deputy to CIty Clerk Linda Devine.
Ingram said Chapanond had not granted the city a release allowing Seal Beach officials to say anything. Ingram said Chapanond had accepted a position with another agency.
“Before and after the city council takes action, the city clerk ensures that actions are in compliance with all federal, state and local statutes and regulations and that all actions are properly executed, recorded, and archived,” said the City Clerks Association of California website.
As of November 2006, there were 478 incorporated cities in California and 154 elected city clerks.
The Seal Beach city clerk is elected. However, the deputy city clerk is not an elected official. Ingram said Seal Beach staff was looking at long term and short term solutions to Chapanond’s absence. Ingram said existing city staff was helping fill in the gaps resulting from Chapanond’s resignation
In June 2010, Chapanond earned the designation of Certified Municipal Clerk from the International Institute of Municipal Clerks, Inc.
