Crime Log: West Cities Police Communications hires new dispatcher

Holly Tran, new West Cities Police Communications dispatcher.

West Cities Police Communications, headquartered in Seal Beach, has hired a new full time dispatcher.

Holly Tran join will West-Comm on Monday, April 5.

Tran is a graduate of Pacifica High School in Garden Grove, according to Dispatch Supervisor Kristen Berry.

Tran received her associate of arts degree from Cypress College.

Tran began her career in law enforcement as an intern/property clerk with the Westminster Police Department.

Tran decided to make a change in her career and worked in the hotel industry.

After realizing she had a passion for law enforcement, Tran was hired by the La Habra Police Department as a police dispatcher in 2008.

Tran is familiar with the West Covina computer aided dispatch system and possesses her Peace Officer Standards and Training certificate.

According to the agency’s own Web site, West-Comm was formed by a joint powers agreement between Seal Beach, Cypress, Los Alamitos and Seal Beach  to provide dispatch services to those communities.

West-Comm also provides dispatch services to the Orange County Parks Rangers.

According to the West-Comm Web site, “West-Comm dispatchers answer approximately 21,000 911 calls annually.”

West-Comm is located at 911 Seal Beach Blvd.

IN SEAL BEACH

Monday, March 15

Fraud Report—1:12 p.m.—11th Street—The caller reported receiving a fraudulent check for $3,500. Assisted.

Grand Theft Report—7:09 p.m.—Ironwood Avenue—According to the caller, at approximately 3 p.m. that day, someone took a bicycle from the caller’s front lawn.

The bike was valued at more than $400, making it a case of grand theft.

Tuesday, March 16

Suspicious Circumstances—6:38 a.m.—Emerald Cove Way—The caller heard someone rattling her front door knob, trying to get into the residence. She didn’t see anyone.

The call was cancelled before a police unit was dispatched.

The caller checked the front door. The rattling of her door knob had been caused by someone placing an advertisement on her front door.

Transients—3:57 p.m.—Main Street—Two white men were panhandling in front of the caller’s store.

The caller believed they were transients and were disturbing the caller’s customers. Police unit 113 contacted them.

They left.

Thursday, March 18

DUI—1:02 a.m.—Main Street and Electric Avenue—An individual was arrested as a result of this call.

Suspicious Occupied Vehicle—4:48 a.m.—Seal Beach Boulevard—The caller said someone was sitting in a car in the drive-thru lane of a business. The caller said the business was not open.

However, the caller was mistaken.

The business was open. Police unit 123 found an individual drinking coffee.

Suspicious Person—6:25 p.m.—Birchwood Avenue and Aster Street—The caller said four juveniles were smoking inside a truck near the park.

The caller said they were not known to the area.

However, police unit 121 determined that they were all adults, that they were smoking tobacco and that some of the people in the truck lived in the area.

Friday, March 19

Suspicious Occupied Vehicle—8:54 a.m.—Seal Beach Boulevard—The caller reported a man possibly sleeping in his vehicle outside the Wachovia Bank in the Seal Beach Village shopping center, located outside of Leisure World.

Police unit 111 contacted the man in the vehicle, who was arrested for possession of slightly more than an ounce of marijuana.

Saturday, March 20

Suspicious Circumstances—2:10 a.m.—Seal Beach Boulevard—According to the caller, the wires in an electrical cabinet to the outside of a bank might have been cut.

The name of the bank was redacted (blacked out) in the log.

According to the log, there was a smell of smoke coming from inside the bank at 2:56 a.m.

Police unit 121 checked the roof. An audible alarm was going off. Police unit said there might be a roof panel open.

A second hole was located on the bank roof.

Police unit 127 checked the vault. There were fresh tracks going to the roof.

The tracks at the roof ended on the roof of the Layla Cafe, which is located in the Seal Beach Village shopping center located next to Leisure World.

Police officers and a canine unit entered the vault. Afterward, police unit 1S6 advised that no further police services were necessary.

IN LOS ALAMITOS

Monday, March 22

Fight—4:03 p.m.—Howard Avenue and Lexington Drive—The caller said a group of four adults were in a verbal disagreement. Officers spoke with the group and broke up the gathering.

Tuesday, March 23

Illegal Peddler—1:13 p.m.—Fenley Drive and Kaylor Avenue—An individual was reportedly going door to door, soliciting funds.

Wednesday, March 24

Counseling—4:32 p.m.—Walnut Street—An individual came home to find a doorknob loosened. The individual was told a group of juveniles from a named address did it.

Officers counseled the juveniles.

Thursday, March 25

Keep the Peace—5:24 p.m.—Katella Avenue—An individual was being terminated at work and the caller expected a problem.

Officers stood by, but there was no trouble.

Friday, March 26

Illegal Dumping—7:08 p.m.—Howard Avenue—An individual moved out of an apartment and was dumping trash and prescription drugs inside.

Sunday, March 28

Loud Music—10:51 a.m.—Kaylor Street—Loud music was coming out of someone’s garage down the street. Officers found a man working on his car who said he would turn the music down.

Monday, March 22

Fraud Report—11:21 a.m.—Foster Road.

Suspicious Person or Circumstances—4:07 p.m.—Silver Fox Road and Blume Drive.

Tuesday, March 23

Identity Theft—10:35 a.m.—Copa D’Oro Drive.

Suspicious Person or Circumstances—6:29 p.m.—Weatherby Road and Hedwig Road—Deputies stopped and detained the Suspicious person. Nothing suspicious noted.

Wednesday, March 24

Suspicious Person or Circumstances—1:26 a.m.—Hedwig Road and Los Alamitos Boulevard—Deputies stopped the Suspicious person. Nothing suspicious noted.

Suspicious Person or Circumstances—4:44 p.m.—Shakespeare Drive.

Disturbance, Music or Party—9:41 p.m.—Oak Knoll Drive.

Friday, March 26

Stolen Vehicle—7:57 p.m.—Copa D’Oro Drive—Vehicle returned.

Disturbance, Music or Party—11:46 p.m.—Aceca Drive—Deputies made contact with homeowner and shut down party.

IN SUNSET BEACH

Thursday, March 25

Suspicious Person or Circumstances—9:09 a.m.—N. Pacific Avenue 6th Street.

Disturbance, Music or Party—11:05 p.m.—17th Street—The Orange County Sheriff’s Department received a report of loud music from Mother’s Bar.

This was the second complaint in two days. The manager was warned and the music was turned down.

Friday, March 26

Pedestrian Check—7:28 a.m.—N. Pacific Avenue and 8th Street—Deputies stopped an unspecified number of individuals, searched them and determined nothing illegal was occurring. They were released.

Disturbance—5:12 p.m.—Pacific Coast Highway—The people causing the disturbance left the area. The call was cancelled.

Saturday, March 27

Suspicious Person or Circumstances—1:16 a.m.—Pacific Avenue—The caller said a man and a woman were attempting to open the garage door of a home under construction.

The caller yelled and the suspects left the area in a vehicle. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate the vehicle.
