Crime Log: Vehicle not stolen, just misplaced

A man reported recovering a vehicle that was incorrectly reported stolen, according to the Seal Beach Police Department log for Tuesday, June 29.

The caller—”reporting person” in police parlance—reported finding the car at 12:30 p.m. that day.

As it turned out, another law enforcement agency had moved the caller’s vehicle to make way for a special event and did not pass that information along to the caller’s son, who was apparently using the vehicle at the time.

The car owner’s son, of course, reported the car stolen.

The car was not wrecked, stripped or burned. Both plates were on the vehicle and no one was in custody for the non-theft.

Report taken.
