It’s not unusual for the police to seek a fugitive. It is unusual for police to seek a four-legged fugitive .
On Thursday morning, May 10, a Seal Beach Police officer took a dog to the Seal Beach Animal Care Center.
It began with a phone call from a citizen at about 9:03 a.m., reportting that a small, brown lap dog was running around in the street near the intersection of Beachcomber Drive and Sea Breeze Drive.
The caller tried to catch the dog, but the animal kept running across the street to evade capture.
Police contacted Long Beach Animal Care Services, which has a contract to provide animal control services to Seal Beach.
The Long Beach agency sent out a unit.
Seal Beach Police unit 441 searched for the dog. The citizen who reported the stray followed the animal on Sea Breeze Drive as it traveled towards Bolsa.
Eventually, the dog was picked up. The log did not make clear if it was the caller or the police who took the animal into custody. The log only says that at 9:16 a.m., the dog was located at Sea Breeze and Island View. However, it was police unit 441 that took the dog to the shelter.
