The Seal Beach Police Department participated in the longest foot pursuit in history this past weekend. The 2014 – 30th Annual “Baker to Vegas” run from Baker, Calif., to Las Vegas, Nev., was a success for Seal Beach officers this year.
Alongside police officers from the Los Alamitos Police Department, Westminster Police Department, and the Fountain Valley Police Department, our police officers placed 8th overall within our division. With 262 teams, the “Baker to Vegas” course began 25 miles north of Baker, Calif. on Highway 127 to Shoshone Calif.; then northeast on Highway 178, across the state line into Nevada on Highway 372 to Pahrump Nev., then southeast on Highway 160 to the finish inside the Hilton Hotel Convention Room in Las Vegas.
Teams ran in 11 flights, depending upon their ability, with flights starting hourly on Saturday, March 22, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. On Sunday, March 23, eight hours after the last team finished, an awards ceremony was held in the Hilton Hotel Convention room. There, more than 6,000 runners and support personnel, several thousand family members and friends, and almost 1,000 race volunteers attended. The SBPD team was awarded the coveted Baker to Vegas Mug.

Extra Patrol Checks Requested—7:26 a.m.—First Street and Pacific Coast Highway—The caller asked for extra patrol checks for cars that did not stop for the special needs bus that arrives daily.
Disturbance, Music—6:22 p.m.—Main Street—The caller, the second of two, complained about music coming from a business. The name and address of the business were blacked out in the log. The second caller was willing to sign a complaint. Police unit 940 reported that the music was not any louder than normal and was not unreasonably loud, but an unspecified individual agreed to turn down the volume.
Tuesday, March 18
Suspicious Occupied Vehicle—9:27 a.m.—Dogwood Avenue—The caller said two men in a van were taking pictures of homes. Police unit 106 interviewed them in the field.
Petty Theft Report—2:40 p.m.—Surf Place—Someone entered an unlocked van during the night. The unknown suspect took change and a speaker. Report taken.

Friday, February 28
Disturbance, Party—10:28 p.m.—Cherry Street—The caller reported a loud party to the left of their residence in a cul-de-sac with guests being loud on top of the roof deck along with several vehicles parked up and down the street. Patrol advised the responsible individual and they said they would comply.
Saturday, March 1
Welfare Check—11:08 a.m.—Los Alamitos Boulevard—The caller said a man came inside and told the caller he had just been hit and had passed out. The caller was unable to tell what the man was saying due to a language barrier. His car had run out of gas, and he asked for patrol to drop him off. Patrol dropped him off.
Disturbance, Family—12:53 p.m.—Reagan Street—The caller reported parents and a 14-year-old had been physically fighting. No drugs, alcohol or weapons involved. Son had been pushing and shoving his parents. Patrol counseled.
Sunday, March 2
Welfare Check—10:31 p.m.—Bloomfield Street—The caller requested a welfare check on her children. The caller was in an argument with her husband the previous day and he said he was going to try to take them away from her. The caller had not been able to get in touch with her children all day and advised that husband might be on some kind of substance. There also might be a handgun in the house. Patrol made contact with husband and he checked out okay.
Monday, March 3
Disturbance—12:22 p.m. —Ball Road —The caller reports customer inside and is slamming doors. Subject is getting into Chevy Impala near Bloomfield Ave. Subject became argumentative when the teller kept his I.D., while finishing a transaction. Subject was attempting to cash a check, leaving the check and his I.D. Report taken.

Petty Theft—10:20 a.m. —Linda Way —The caller said someone dug up two rose bushes in the front of the yard during the night. Value of the plants is unknown. The caller is requesting extra patrol checks during the nighttime hours. The caller did not desire a report.

Vandalism in Progress—3:04 p.m.—Martha Ann Drive—The caller said four individuals jumped the fence with spray paint to vandalize the drainage ditch.
Suspicious Person or Circumstances—5:24 p.m.—Montecito Road—The caller said a man on a bicycle carrying a bag full of cans was trying the door handles of different vehicles.
Wednesday, March 19
Citizen Assist—10:03 p.m.—Donnie Ann Road—The caller said she thought she heard three gunshots from an unknown location.
Suspicious Person in Vehicle—2:18 p.m.—Montecito Road—The caller requested a patrol check on the occupant of a vehicle with ladders in the back that had been parked in front of the locaton for the past hour with loud music playing. The caller did not know who the occupant of the car was.
Open Door—5:35 p.m.—Montecito Road—The caller came home to find her front door open. She said she could see that things were missing. She did not go inside. She requested a unit to perform a walk-through.

Suspicious Person in Vehicle—8:12 p.m.—Kempton Drive and Silver Fox Road—The caller said a vehicle occupied by a man and a woman was stopping in front of all the houses, possibly casing. The caller phoned back and said there was a white piece of paper stuck on the car’s window.
Disturbance, Music or Party—10:30 p.m.—Foster Road—The caller reported a loud party at a residence across the street from Lee Elementary School.
