Statistics show that 200,000 bicycles are stolen in the U.S. every year. Cyclists own their bikes, on average, for about 23 months, according to a leading insurer.
Here in Seal Beach, there have been 31 bicycle thefts reported to the police so far this year.
Of those thefts, 12 occurred in City Council District One (Old Town and Surfside Colony), seven in District Two (Leisure World and College Park West), six in District Three (Hill, Coves, Bridgeport, and Heron Pointe), three in District Four (College Park East and Town Center) and three in District Five (Leisure World).
The SBPD representative will talk about recent news on thefts and share information on bike safety and security. Also, a representative from Abus International, a bike lock company, will discuss various types of locks for bicycles.
“We’re extremely pleased to be able to provide these experts for our workshop,” said Beth Black, co-owner of Pedego Greater Long Beach.
“This is an important topic and one that will serve the community at large,” Black said.
