Crime Log: Man, 68, dies at Seal Beach Pier

A man died in the men’s restroom of the Seal Beach Pier Sunday, Feb. 23.

The Orange County Cororner’s Office  will perform an autopsy. The cause of death has not been determined. However, as of Monday, Feb. 24, Seal Beach Police Sgt. Phil Gonshak said they believe the death was due to natural causes.

At 11:06 a.m. that morning, Seal Beach Police responded to a report of a man suffering from an unknown medical emergency in the pier restroom. On arrival, officers found the victim unresponsive.

Seal Beach Lifeguards and Orange County Fire Authority paramedics tried to save him.Unfortunately, the paramedics determined that the victim had passed away prior to the arrival of emergency personnel on the scene.

The victim was identified as a 68-year-old Seal Beach man.

Police did not release his name.

There were no witnesses when the victim suffered the medical issue; therefore, the Coroner’s Office responded and transported the victim to their facility where they will conduct an autopsy.

Tuesday, February 18

Suspicious Person—11:01 p.m.—Seal Beach Boulevard—The caller said a man sitting on the tables in the area had been present for two to three hours. He was talking to himself and the caller thought he might be under the influence. He was interviewed in the field. He was advised to leave and said he would comply. He told police he was looking for a ride.

Wednesday, February 19

Suspicious Person—7:34 p.m.—Seal Beach Boulevard—The caller said a man was wandering around the parking lot with a baby carrier. He kept putting the carrier down, walking away and then returning to pick it up. Police unit 206 contacted the man and determined no further police services were necessary.

The man was walking his infant around the parking lot.

Friday, February 7

Transient—2:48 a.m.—Katella Avenue and Kaylor Avenue—The caller reported a transient asleep half in the street and half on the curb. Patrol saw him earlier. Patrol determined he was okay.

Saturday, February 8

Petty Theft—7:45 p.m. —Los Alamitos Boulevard—The caller said she left a cell phone in a shopping cart several hours ago and when she returned it was gone. Report taken for insurance.

Sunday, February 9

Suspicious Person—10:24 a.m. —Orangewood—The caller reported a man walking on the greens near the trail of the golf course, talking to himself. He appeared to be under the influence. He was arrested on outstanding warrants.

Monday, February 10

Transient—7:42 a.m. —Kyle Street—The caller reported a man with underwear on the outside of his pants and pushing a shopping cart. He was talking to himself and there were children in the area approaching. Patrol advised him to leave the area and he said he would comply.

Wednesday, February 12

Disturbance—9 p.m. —Reagan Street—The caller said two juveniles in the main house of a shelter were arguing with staff. Patrol counseled.

Thursday, February 13

Citizen Assist—4:08 a.m. —Los Alamitos Boulevard—The caller said a woman took a cab after passing out. She was diagnosed with a brain tumor and was given meds that made her drowsy. She was standing by for a cab to Seal Beach. Patrol assisted.

Friday, February 14

Medical Aid—1:30 p.m. —Cerritos Avenue—The caller reported chest pains and requested medics. The caller was in front of the school. The call was cancelled. The caller went to the health office instead. Patrol assisted.

IN ROSSMOOR

Wednesday, February 19

Prowler—2 a.m.—Kensington Road—The caller said they heard hammering to one side of the house. The motion light then came on in the same location a few minutes later. They hadn’t heard anything else since. The caller asked for deputies to check the perimeter. Deputies found nothing suspicious and determined no further law enforcement services were necessary.

Friday, February 21

Suspicious Person in Vehicle—7:44 a.m.—St. Albans Drive and Foster Road—A deputy searched for a man in hoodie who was in a silver vehicle for more than 30 minutes. The caller thought this was suspicious because the car was located near a school.
