IN SEAL?BEACH

Monday, May 27

Disturbance, Juveniles—3:07 p.m.—5th Street and Pacific Coast Highway—The caller said juveniles were jumping over the construction at the location on skateboards. Police unit 107 contacted the minors and advised them to discontinue. They said they would comply.

Injured Animal—6:16 p.m.—Ocean Avenue—The caller said there was an injured seal on the sand near the waterline on the south side of the Seal Beach Pier. According to the caller, the seal could not get back into the water. Dispatch called Long Beach Animal Care Services, which has a contract to provide animal control services to Seal Beach, and Seal Beach Lifeguards.

The lifeguards had also called Long Beach Animal Care Services and would not respond to the call. ACS contacted dispatch and gave dispatch an estimated time of arrival of 20 minutes.

According to the Pacific Marine Mammal Center, seeing a seal or sea lion on the beach doesn’t necessarily mean the animal needs to be rescued.

The center website advises that if you find a seal or sea lion, stay away, keep others away, keep an eye on the animal, determine its exact location and call the center at  (949) 494.3050.

Tuesday, May 28

Battery—3:35 p.m.—Pacific Coast Highway—According to the caller, who was identified as a “male” in the log, he was riding a skateboard down the street and accidentally bumped into another man, who struck the skateboarder in the face with an open palm.

Police unit 107 contacted the two parties and concluded that it was a mutual fight with no injuries to either party and no further assistance requested by either party. Counselled.

Wednesday, May 29

Injured Animal—8:06 a.m.—10th Street and Electric Avenue—Police unit 443 found a baby hawk out of the nest on the Greenbelt. Message delivered to Long Beach Animal Care Services. Estimated time of arrival: 20 to 30 minutes. The baby hawk hopped back into the tree, apparently placing the bird out of the reach of ACS. Message delivered to ACS. They said they would respond to check on the animal. At last report, the baby hawk was in the smallest tree in front of the trash cans and dog bags by 10th Street on the Greenbelt.

Friday, May 31

Attempted Vehicle Burglary—4:15 a.m.—Emerald Cove Way—The suspect threw a plant pot at the window of the caller’s car. The window did not break. The caller’s neighbor saw the suspect. Report taken.

Monday, May 27

Disturbance—6:41 p.m.—Green Avenue—The caller said two juveniles were in the alley, breaking light bulbs.

One was a girl wearing a grey sweatshirt and the other was a boy wearing a blue tank top and shorts. The caller told the juveniles to leave, but they refused.

Wednesday, May 29

Welfare Check—1:16 a.m.—Howard Avenue—The caller was awakened by of a woman screaming and crying. The caller’s husband went outside and the woman was lying in the grass and appeared to be hurt. The woman said that her boyfriend had pushed her out of the car. She was seen moving towards the alley or possibly to Labordette Park. The caller and her husband could no longer hear her. Foot patrol was unable to locate the female.

Thursday, May 30

Suspicious Circumstances—8:16 a.m.—Los Alamitos Boulevard—The caller said that the driver of a moving truck was seen on the ground, changing the license plate on the truck. There were four individuals in the truck and a white vehicle and black Jeep parked with them. A driver, a woman in her 30s, was pointing at them as if they were taking too long to take the plate off. The suspects were last seen leaving northbound about 10 minutes prior to the call.
