Monday, June 25

Citizen Assist—1:54 p.m.—Ocean Avenue—Police unit 107 was dispatched to contact a volunteer regarding a tent on the grassy area in the parking lot. No one had a permit for the tent. The person responsible for the tent was advised and they promised to comply with police instructions to remove it.

Counseling—6 p.m.—Montecito Road—The caller’s friend hit a parked car on Sunday, June 24, and then left without leaving a note. The caller was concerned that the victim would make a report. Counseled.

Disturbance, Vehicle—7:22 p.m.—Marina Drive—The caller said a car was going in circles in a parking lot across from the park. The caller objected to the dust the vehicle was spreading.

Disturbance, Juvenile—7:24 p.m.—B Row, Surfside Colony—The caller, relaying second-hand information, said four juveniles were trying to kick down a fence that separates the beach from the property. No suspect information. Security personnel told police that no report was desired and that the homeowners association would fix the gate.

Tuesday, June 26

Suspicious Bag—8:46 a.m.—First Street and Ocean Avenue—The caller saw a white plastic bag in the street at approximately 7:30 a.m. The caller believed the bag might contain dead animals. She saw a dead bird’s feet coming out of the bag. Police found a chicken head in the gutter on First between Central and Ocean Avenue. Police sent a message to Long Beach Animal Care Services, which has a contract to handle animal control issues for Seal Beach.

Petty Theft—1:48 p.m.—Seal Way—The crime occurred 25 to 30 minutes prior to the call to police. Loss: a laptop and PlayStation. Report taken.

Vandalism—3:40 p.m.—Bolsa and Seal Beach Boulevard—The caller said a man was writing in the newly poured cement in front of the school on Bolsa. While investigating, police unit 107 cited and released a man for violating the Seal Beach Municipal Code and for an outstanding bench warrant. It turned out the man was listed as a missing person by the Fresno Police Department. The man was given a cell phone number to call. Arrested.

Wednesday, June 27

Disturbance—2:10 a.m.—Basswood and Aster—The caller reported an argument between a man and a woman in front of a residence. However, police were unable to locate the quarreling couple.

Illegal Peddler—1:28 p.m.—Main Street—The caller said a man and a woman were asking for money. At least one of them was playing a guitar and both of them had sleeping bags.

Found Property—2:29 p.m.—Ocean Avenue—The caller turned in a purse. Report taken.

Hail By Citizen—3:55 p.m.—Ocean Avenue—Police unit 107 took a report of credit card  fraud.

Disturbance—4:21 p.m.—Main Street—Protestors asked the police to respond for a man who ripped down their signs and posters. However, the man in question told police that the protestors were harassing him. Police counselled both parties.

Suspicious Occupied Vehicle—10:35 p.m.—Pacific Coast Highway—The caller saw two men in a small vehicle driving slowly around the parking lot. The caller thought they might be casing the area.

Thursday, June 28

Municipal Code Violation—9:06 a.m.—Ocean Avenue—The caller said a man was collecting mussels off the Seal Beach Pier. Police sent a message to Seal Beach Lifeguards, who would handle the call. Referred.

Welfare Check—2:15 p.m.—15th Street and Landing—The caller reported an unsupervised child, 5 to 6 years old. Police were unable to locate the child or contact the caller.

Traffic Hazard—3:55 p.m.—Pacific Coast Highway—The caller said there was a ladder in the southbound traffic lanes.

Petty Theft Report—4:55 p.m.—Seal Beach Boulevard—The crime apparently occurred that morning at 9:45 a.m. Someone stole an iPhone from the a customer at the bank after the customer saw a teller. Report taken.

Disturbance, Neighbors—6:55 p.m.—Jade Cove Way—Police unit 207 contacted the caller about a neighbor, possibly a juvenile, who had been screaming. The caller said this was an on-going problem. All parties counselled. The caller was advised to phone again if the disturbance continues.

Water Problem—6:59 p.m.—15th Street—The caller said water was falling from his neighbor’s upper deck, which was located at the rear of the residence. Police contacted the owner. The source of the problem was found: a sprinkler leak.

Friday, June 29

Disturbance—12:56 a.m.—Ocean Avenue—The caller said there were two individuals being loud outside his home.

Pedestrians—1:16 a.m.—Pacific Coast Highway—Patrol unit 207 while on service contacted two juveniles, both boys, about violating curfew. The juveniles were interviewed in the field. Police unit 207 took the boys home to their father. The father, like the boys, was advised about the curfew.

Graffiti/Vandalism—8:02 a.m.—Main Street—The caller reported writing on the north end of the building, about 6 inches in size. The writing appeared to have been on the wall for an extended period of time due to the dirt and plants around the letter. Police unit 107 left a note at the business.

Malicious Mischief—8:47 a.m.—Anchor Way—Two tires on a car were punctured. The crime apparently occurred overnight. Report taken.

Found Property—6:21 p.m.—Main Street and Electric Avenue—The caller’s husband found an iPad on Main Street. The caller did not want to turn it into the police and refused to provide her address. She said she wanted to hold onto the iPad until the owner called to claim it. Police units attempted to contact the caller at a location on 11th Street. Report taken.

Illegal Peddler—8:52 p.m.—16th Street—The caller reported a man going door to door, soliciting for a dry cleaning service. A neighbor reportedly told the caller that he was selective about what houses he approached.

Saturday, June 30

Disturbance—6:03 p.m.—Main Street Central Avenue—The caller reported being followed by an individual whose dog bit the caller’s dog. The caller said her dog was injured and bleeding. The caller was advised to contact Long Beach Animal Care Services.

Sunday, July 1

Disturbance—2:26 a.m.—Silver Shoals Avenue—The caller said a group of juveniles were running down the street and breaking things.

Injured Animal—9 a.m.—Ocean Avenue and 7th Street—The caller said a baby seal had washed ashore alive on the beach on the north side of the Seal Beach Pier. Referred.

Federal law protects seals and sea lions. The two animals are often confused. The statue of “Slick the Seal,” on the Seal Beach Pier, for example, depicts not a seal but a sea lion.

In any event, it is illegal for unauthorized individuals to touch them—and wild animals sometimes bite people.

If you see a marine mammal—dolphin, whale, seal or sea lion—and think it is in distress, call the Pacific Marine Mammal Center at (949) 494-3050 and keep a minimum of 100 feet from the animal.

Wednesday, June 27

Disturbance, Family—3:17 a.m.—Northwood Road, Mutual Unknown—A resident called Leisure World Security to report a verbal fight.

Police unit 206 determined that a father and son had a verbal fight over money. Matter solved.

Possible Petty Theft—12:30 p.m.—Annandale Drive, Mutual 1—The caller’s mother’s necklace was missing after the mother was transported to another location. Counseled.

Counseling—12:38 p.m.—El Dorado Drive, Mutual Unknown—A resident called regarding a scam. The resident had a call back number and name for the suspect. Counseled.

In Los Alamitos

Friday, June 15

Counseling—9:16 a.m. –Howard Avenue—The caller was extremely irate and dissatisfied about a disturbing noise from a man on a scooter. The scooter was not in the area at the time of the call, but the caller insisted the police bring out a sound monitoring system and cite the rider for noise ordinance violations. The caller was extensively counseled by the dispatcher, but insisted on a patrol unit responding. A patrol check was requested to look for a man on a scooter, to check for noise violations and licensing of scooter.

Saturday, June 16

Possible Drug Sale—12:22 p.m.—Saratoga and Howard—The caller reported a man in a white BMW, possibly selling marijuana. The caller was in the area to pick up his daughter and saw the man for about 10 minutes as various individuals approached the vehicle and the caller possibly saw hand-to-hand transactions. A unit patrol checked the area, but the suspect was gone upon arrival.

Friday, June 22

Extra Patrol Checks Requested—3:19 p.m.—Portal Drive—The caller said that sometime during the night a truck in the parking lot that belonged to another business had its battery stolen and gas siphoned out. The owner of the truck was not at the location and the caller was simply requesting extra patrols in the area.

Sunday, June 24

Petty Theft—5:18 p.m.—Farquhar Avenue—The caller said a man in a brown Ford Ranger truck had taken a grill that was in front of the caller’s house. There were two suspects in the truck and at least one of them was wearing a cowboy hat. The charbroil gril was sitting on the curb with a for sale sign. The caller believed the suspects were collecting junk.

Monday, June 25

Shots Heard—9:06 p.m.—Kelly Lane—The caller heard two gunshots coming from next door.

The caller did not see anything suspicious, but heard a lot of commotion and what sounded like banging sounds. A patrol officer got no response at the door, but a vehicle pulled into the driveway. The resident said the banging was from a large dog trying to jump over the gate.

The officer determined no further police services were necessary.

Wednesday, June 27

Suspicious Vehicle—12:36 p.m.—Los Alamitos Boulevard—The caller said a black Ford Expedition that was occupied by two men had been in the area for a long time. The caller believed the men might have been casing the business.

Thursday, June 28

Bees—6:38 p.m.—Green Avenue—The caller said there was a bee hive in front of the location. The caller said the bees were not swarming.

A unit was advised to report if the Public Works Department was needed that night.

A second caller reported that the bees were on city property. Public Works told police that the “Bee Busters,” were en route to the location.
