Monday, March 19

Suspicious Person—8:23 a.m.—Wisteria Street—The caller said a man not known to the area went into an elderly woman’s back yard. The officer in unit M6 contacted the suspect in front of the neighbor’s house. The officer told dispatch that the man might be a gardener. It turned out the officer was right. No further police services were necessary.

Grand Theft Report—10:04 a.m.—Old Ranch and Seal Beach Boulevard—A Cat loader was taken from the freeway construction site at the location over the weekend. Report taken.

Hazard—10:59 a.m.—Harbor Way—The caller said the wind on the previous night caused palm branches to fall on the electrical box in front of the location. Assisted: the palm fronds were removed from the electrical box.

Tuesday, March 20

Petty Theft Report—2:31 p.m.—Pacific Coast Highway—Loss: a brown Trek mountain bike valued at approximately $700. No suspect information. Report taken.

Illegal Peddler—7:30 p.m.—Seal and Dolphin—The caller said an individual was soliciting in three different complexes. When someone refused to donate, the individual became hostile and cursed.

Wednesday, March 21

Counseling—7:14 a.m.—Seal Beach Boulevard—A citizen walked into Seal Beach Police Department headquarters to speak with an officer about children selling candy during unusual hours. The citizen was concerned about possible child exploitation.

Suspicious Circumstances—10:06 a.m.—Birchwood Avenue—The caller thought she heard someone in her home. She didn’t want units dispatched, but she did want police to stay on the line while she checked. At 10:07 a.m., the log indicated that no further police services were necessary.

Identity Theft—2:12 p.m.—Plymouth Drive—Someone tried to open two credit card accounts in a citizen’s name. Report taken.

Suspicious Occupied Vehicle—3:01 p.m.—Catalina Avenue—The caller reported a parked vehicle occupied by two men unknown to the area. The caller was concerned due to recent burglaries in the area. They were seen walking up to the residence that there were parked in front of. The police were unable to locate the suspects, but an officer did speak with the original caller. The citizen said the suspects had left. No further police services were necessary.

Thursday, March 22

Suspicious Occupied Vehicle—3:27 a.m.—Daisy Street—The caller said a white van had circled the neighborhood for at least an hour and a half. The van was last seen five minutes earlier and was occupied by two men. Police unit 206 found a newspaper delivery truck.

Smoke Investigation—12:06 p.m.—Brookeline Road—The caller reported the smell of smoke in the area. The Orange County Fire Authority was en route. Fortunately, there was no fire. The smell was caused by roof tar.

Friday, March 23

Burglary Report—7:12 a.m.—17th Street—An unknown suspect took two bikes from the caller’s unlocked garage. Loss: two beach cruiser-type bikes. Report taken.

Vehicle Burglary—7:42 a.m.—Marvista Avenue—Loss: unknown. Point of entry: a smashed passenger side window.

Dog—7:44 a.m.—Catalina and Avalon—The caller said a dog was running in the street. The call was cancelled before a unit could be dispatched. The caller captured the dog and decided to handle the matter personally.

Fraud Report—9:23 a.m.—Birchwood Avenue—Someone used the caller’s credit card to buy gas. The caller was notified by his bank. Report taken. (See the Sun’s weekly update on Orange County gas prices under “In Business” in the Business and Real Estate section.)

Suspicious Circumstances—8:28 p.m.—Ocean Avenue—The caller said it sounded like someone was trying to open the door. The caller said no one should be arriving. There should be no cars in front of the house.

The caller said there were no animals inside or outside. Police unit 207 checked. It turned out the caller had heard someone trying to get in—a pet sitter tried to access the wrong house by mistake. No further police services were necessary.

Saturday, March 24

Baby Locked in Vehicle—12:25 p.m.—Ocean Avenue—The caller said a 2-year-old had locked himself in a vehicle. Police contacted Team Tow. Assisted: the vehicle was unlocked.

Fraud—2:06 p.m.—Central Way—Someone used the caller’s Social Security Number and date of birth to try to get money wired out of the caller’s account.

Bike—3:45 p.m.—13th Street—A bike was stolen from a shared garage. The red Trek mountain bike was valued at $400, making this a case of petty theft. No suspect information. Log entry.

Sunday, March 25

Dead Animal—6:57 a.m.—Fir Avenue—The caller said a dead cat had been on the sidewalk since the day before. Referred to Long Beach Animal Care Services.

Transient—10:04 a.m.—Main Street—The caller said a man who the caller described as a transient was sleeping on the south side, near the air conditioner. The caller said there was an on-going problem with the same individual. Police unit 107 advised the individual to stop it and the man told police he would comply.

Wednesday, March 21

Lost/Stolen License Plate—10:46 a.m.—Del Monte Drive, Mutual Unknown—Loss: the front plate from a Jeep Grand Cherokee. The caller did not know when the plate was lost or stolen. Report taken.

Harassing Call Report—3:01 p.m.—Golden Rain Road, Mutual Unknown—A resident reported receiving a threatening call from a solicitor. The solicitor’s supervisor reportedly called back after the resident hung up. The supervisor reportedly threatened to send someone out to batter her. No phone number. No caller identification. The caller as asked to keep a log of unwanted incoming calls by date and time for future reports. Log entry.

Saturday, March 17

Disturbance—2:12 a.m.—Howard Avenue—The caller said men on the Bloomfield side of the building were yelling at each other. The caller also heard them throwing up.

Noise Disturbance—7:23 p.m.— Farquhar Avenue—The caller said that his neighbors upstairs were being really loud. The caller said the neighbors could be heard making noise with dishes and yelling at each other. A patrol unit spoke with the caller and the neighbors, who said that they had complaints about the caller as well. Parties were advised to speak with the landlord and work out an agreement.

Tuesday, March 20

Person Down—10:49 a.m.— Oak Street—The caller reported that a woman was on the ground in front of the location. The caller said that she was not moving and that he was unable to wake her up. A patrol unit determined that the woman was just sleeping and was OK.

Thursday, March 22

Patrol Check—3:54 a.m.—Pine Street—The caller said they thought someone was throwing things at their house, possibly from the alley. The caller said that it had been going on for a week. The caller did not wish to be contacted. Patrol checked the area and could find no sign of anyone throwing things.

Automobile Tampering—6:13 p.m.—Oak Street—The caller reported that some time during the night, someone cut the muffler off his truck. Later the caller realized that his catalytic converter had been stolen.

Battery—8:56 a.m.—Montecito Road—The caller said a neighbor threw hot coffee at him. The caller refused to have paramedics look at him. The suspect was described as a 35-year-old white man, 5 feet 10 inches, with dark hair, weighing 160 pounds, wearing a shirt and jeans. The suspect was last seen running toward his own house. The log did not include the name of the suspect.

Suspicious Person or Circumstances—12:34 p.m.—Copa De Oro Drive and Foster Road—The caller thought three men who were selling door-to-door might be casing the neighborhood.

Suspicious Person in Vehicle—2:47 p.m.—Gertrude Drive—The caller said a white man in his late 50s with curly hair had been seen around the neighborhood lately, just watching the kids. The man was seen driving an older model Toyota.

Bike Stop—7:03 p.m.—Foster Road and Copa De Oro Drive.—An arrest was made as a result of this call. The log provided no details about the incident. The suspect is currently being held on $500 bail, according to the Orange County Sheriff’s Department website.

Burglary Report—6:37 a.m.—Donovan Road.—The log did not say if this was a residential or automobile burglary.

Suspicious Person or Circumstances —11:05 a.m.—Martha Ann Drive and Coleridge Drive.

Resisting Arrest—7:36 p.m.—Hedwig Road and Los Alamitos Boulevard—The log provided no details about this incident. It is not known if this incident was in any way related to the disturbance call at Hedwig Road and Los Alamitos Boulevard at 5:33 p.m.
