Crime Log: Driver in First Street car crash passes away

A man was sent to the hospital Sunday, Aug. 12, after his car flipped over on First Street. In an Aug. 16, Seal Beach Police Sgt. Michael Henderson informed the Sun that the driver passed had away.

Acccording to the Police Department, at approximately 10:55 a.m., on Sunday, Aug. 12, officers responded to a call of a traffic collision on First Street at Central Way.

Upon arrival, officers discovered a single car had collided with parked cars and was overturned in the roadway. The driver, and lone occupant, was found to be suffering a medical emergency.

The SBPD statement did not elaborate on the nature of the medical emergency. The driver was transported to a local hospital in serious condition. As of Monday, his condition had not changed according to Sgt. Henderson, the department’s public information officer.

The Serious Traffic Accident Response team was summoned to investigate the accident. First Street was closed for several hours due to the investigation. Police are asking anyone with information about the accident to call Officer Keith Phan at 562-799-4100 ext. 1649.

 

SBPD seeks owners of recovered property

The Seal Beach Police Department is looking for the owners of property they believe was stolen. They are also looking for victims or witnesses to the theft of the items recovered as a result of a recent car stop.

On Aug. 13, 2018 at approximately 2:50 a.m., Seal Beach Police officers stopped a car that officers reportedly considered suspicions on the 100 block of 10th Street. Further investigation revealed the vehicle had been stolen from Long Beach. According to the Seal Beach Police Department, driver Jaime Favela, 45, of Long Beach, was arrested on suspicion of receiving stolen property (the car).

Passenger Angelica Damian-Delgadillo, 26, of Long Beach was found to have a warrant and based on that was arrested on suspicion of possession of burglary tools.

A warrant is an ordered to a judge directing a police officer to bring someone before the court.

Further investigation revealed the vehicle contained several stolen items where ownership cannot be identified. Seal Beach Police Detectives are seeking other possible victims/witnesses to this crime. If you feel you are a victim, contact Sgt. Chris Hendrix at 562-799-4100 x1642.

Arrest (Priority 3)—7:42 a.m.—Old Ranch Parkway—The caller reported a man sleeping in a parking spot on the north side of the lot. The log made no mention of a car. Police units 106 and S20 responded. Police arrested Isaac Paz on suspicion of resisting arrest and trespassing. Incident response time: 8 minutes 27 seconds

Grand Theft Report (Priority 3)—7:43 a.m.—Ocean Avenue (Old Town)—The caller reported that someone took paperwork and a laptop from a possibly unlocked car. Police unit 107 responded.

Incident response time: 5 minutes 27 seconds.

Transient (Priority 3)—8:42 a.m.—Seal Beach Boulevard and Lampson Avenue—The caller said a transient man was sitting on the ground with his legs across the walkway. The caller saw two passersby, one of them an elderly man, have to walk around the individual in question. Police unit 107 was unable to locate the man in question.

Incident response time: 19 minutes 34 seconds.

Counseling (Priority 3)—9:26 a.m.—Beachcomer Drive—The caller wanted it noted that someone stole his trash. The caller didn’t want contact with an officer at the time, he just wanted the incident noted in the log.

Drunk (Priority 2)—10:30 a.m.—Del Monte Drive (Leisure World)—The caller apparently reported a drunk man to the police. Police units 106 and S20 contacted the man. As of 10:51 a.m., he had been taken home.

Incident response time: 1 minutes 56 seconds.

Petty Theft (Priority 2)—10:54 a.m.—Seal Beach Boulevard (Target)—The caller said a man came in and switched his old clothes for new, put his old clothes in a bag and left. The caller wanted him prosecuted for petty theft. Police units 106, M7 and S20 responded. As of 11:57 a.m., police had someone in custody on suspicion of shoplifting. However, his name was not provided in the log.

Incident response time: 7 minutes 20 seconds.

Transient (Priority 3)—2:50 p.m.—Seal Way—The caller said a transient man had been present for a couple of days. At the time of the call to police, he was sitting on the beach. According to the log, the man had been contacted and warned against camping on the previous Sunday. According to police unit S20, there was no violation of the law at that time. Log item issued. Incident response time: 10 minutes 14 seconds.

Petty Theft (Priority 2)—8:41 p.m.—Pacific Coast Highway—The caller said someone at the location was stealing and the police needed to get there.

Then the caller hung up. Police units 207, 241 and S22 responded. It turned out that the store manager caught a woman stealing a bottle from the business, but the suspect gave it back after the manager shut the doors on her.

Wednesday, July 11

Disturbance (Priority 2)—7:29 a.m.—Electric Avenue and 13th Street—The caller said a woman appeared to be under the influence of alcohol. According to the caller, she was approaching passersby and becoming verbally abusive. One unit responded, but dispatch had four units en route. By the time police unit 107 arrived, an unspecified number of individuals were finishing their partying and went inside a location on 13th Street. Incident response time: 4 minutes 29 seconds.

Transient (Priority 3)—10:27 a.m.—Neptune Avenue—The caller said a transient woman was in front of the business, begging for money. The caller reported asking the woman to leave and she refused. Police unit 107 was unable to locate her. Incident response time: 9 minutes 44 seconds.

Car Check—10:40 a.m.—Third Street—Police unit 443 found a car that appeared to have had its engine running for 30 minutes, according to the log. Police unit 443 located the registered owner of the car on the sand. Unit 443 was on-scene for 3 minutes 25 seconds.

Medical Aid (Priority 1)—11:36 a.m.—Electric Avenue and Main Street (Old Town)—The caller said a woman fell on the sidewalk. She was conscious and breathing. Police units 107 and M7 responded, with M7 providing back up. According to the log, the woman tripped on uneven pavement located on private property on the north side of the building. The woman was transported to another location. She was apparently not taken to the hospital. (Every item in the log has a space for when an individual is taken to the hospital, but there was no time noted in that space for this incident.) Incident response time: 3 minutes 33 seconds

Possible Fraud Report (Priority 3)—3:26 p.m.—12th Street—The caller reported receiving a fraudulent check in the mail. No police units were available to physically respond. Police unit 107 handled the matter over the phone and apparently determined that no crime had occurred. The caller was counseled.

Petty Theft (Priority 2)—3:58 p.m.—Seal Beach Boulevard—The caller said a man took a jogging suit (in his pants). The suspect had just left on a bike. Police units 106, M7 and S24 responded, but none were able to locate the suspect. Report taken. Incident response time: 5 minutes 1 second.

Disturbance (Priority 2)—5:41 p.m.—First Street (Old Town)—The caller reported a dispute between the caller and a house guest. The caller requested she be escorted out. The caller said she was no longer welcome there. According to the log, it was a verbal dispute and both parties had been drinking. As of 6:14 p.m., the woman was still inside the location. Police units 206, 207 and 241 responded. The caller did not wish to prosecute and the suspect left the location. Report taken. Incident response time: 45 minutes 5 seconds.

Welfare Check (Priority 2)—6:25 p.m.—Seal Beach Boulevard—According to the log, the caller sounded drunk to the police dispatcher. The caller said a woman was driving him and he did not know where he was going. As of 6:28 p.m., they had pulled over at a location that was blacked out in the log. Police spoke with the woman, who did not want to give the man a ride in his condition. Police unit S22 determined no crime had a occurred. The man left the location by other means. Incident response time: 10 minutes 49 seconds.

Thursday, July 12

Suspicious Occupied Car (Priority 2)—12:04 a.m.—Fifth Street and Marina Drive—Police unit 241 observed that the occupant of a car was not moving and around 12:18 a.m. requested fire/paramedics. Dispatch notified fire/paramedics within less than a minute. However, police unit 207, which arrived about 8 seconds after unit 241, advised dispatch to cancel the message. The occupant of the car was awake. Fire/paramedics cancelled by 12:21 a.m. Police unit 241 was on-scene for 34 minutes 47 seconds.

Suspicious Occupied Car (Priority 2)—2:12 a.m.—Ocean Avenue—The caller said a man in a parked car had been playing loud music for 45 minutes. Police unit 241 arrived about 8 seconds later. Police unit 241 apparently advised/warned/counseled the individual in the car about making noise. Incident response time: 2 minutes 7 seconds.

Disturbance (Priority 3)—7:55 a.m.—Jade Cove Way—The caller said a man had been yelling profanities in his back yard for the past 30 minutes. Police units 106 and 107 were both en route as of 7:57 a.m., though apparently only unit 107 actually responded. Police advised the man against yelling profanities. Incident response time: 7 minutes 41 seconds.

Petty Theft Report (Priority 3)—9:30 a.m.—Hazelnut Avenue—The caller said he needed to report a stolen handgun. The theft apparently occurred sometime during the previous six months. The gun was apparently taken from the caller’s home. Police unit 106 took the report. Response time: 20 minutes 5 seconds.

Sunday, July 13

Traffic Stop (Priority 4)—1:04 a.m.—Eighth Street and Ocean Avenue—Police unit 207 stopped a car. The officer requested additional units. Police units 206 and 241 assisted. Police arrested Robert Joseph Thompson on suspicion of violation of parole, possession of a controlled substance and possession of illegal drug paraphernalia.
