Automobile burglaries—that is, theft of property taken from locked cars—dominated the Belmont Shore crime scene in December.
Belmont Shore is part of the incorporated City of Long Beach, located near the Seal Beach/Long Beach border.
According to information provided by Jeff Miller of the Belmont Shore Residents Association, compiled by Crime Reports.com, there were five automobile burglaries in Long Beach’s Belmont Shore neighborhood last month.
In addition to automobile burglaries, there was one grand theft from a vehicle—the theft of property worth at least $950 from an unlocked car—and one petty theft from a vehicle—the theft of property worth less than $950 from an unlocked car.
There were also four cars stolen in Belmont Shore.
There was comparatively little violent crime—two assaults and one robbery.
There was also one business burglary and one residential burglary.
There were also three bike thefts and six DUIs reported in Belmont Shore last month, as well as six hit-and-runs without injuires reported in the Belmont Shore area last month.

Monday, January 13
Battery—4:04 p.m.—Seal Beach Boulevard—The caller said another woman knocked her down and left in a vehicle. The caller provided police with suspect information. Report taken.
Tuesday, January 14
Attempted Vehicle Burglary—7:14 p.m.—Fifth Street—A citizen said someone tried to break the window of the vehicle. No loss, but the window was damaged. The caller had the window repaired prior to the call to police. The caller also requested extra patrol checks. Report taken.
Wednesday, January 15
Possible Petty Theft—2:48 p.m.—Seal Beach Boulevard—The caller said a man came into the business 30 minutes earlier and tricked an employee into giving him change. While the employee was getting the change, the man took back the original bill. Counseled.
Thursday, January 16
Vehicle Burglary—10:12 a.m.—Sea Breeze Drive—The crime apparently occurred between 7 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 15, and 8:30 a.m, Thursday, Jan. 16. Loss: none. The break-in was attempted, but did not succeed. No report desired.
Illegal Peddler—12:58 p.m.—Catalina Avenue—The caller said a man rang the doorbell, knocked and then shouted, “knock-knock” when no one answered. Police unit 107 contacted the man and advsied him against his behavior. He apparently aggreed to comply.
Friday, January 17
Theft From Vehicle—7:21 a.m.—Montecito Road—Loss: a wallet containing identification and credit cards, taken from an unlocked vehicle in the carport. In California, if you lock your car and someone takes your property, that is automobile burglary. If you do not lock your vehicle, the law considers it theft from a vehicle and the value of the property stolen determines whether the crime was a felony or a misdemeanor.

Dead Animal—6:53 a.m.—Pacific Coast Highway and Fifth Street—The caller reported a dead skunk in the northbound lanes. Referred to Long Beach Animal Care Services.

Petty Theft Report—5:07 p.m.—Seal Beach Boulevard—Someone stole four infant carriers and four sets of bedding from the location at 4:02 p.m.

Tuesday, January 14
Vandalism Report—4:55 p.m.—St. Andrews Drive, Mutual Unknown—A citizen reported the theft of the emblem from her vehicle. This was apparently the second time the emblem had been taken. The theft occurred somewhere between her residence in Leisure World and a location in Cypress. The citizen did not want a report, but wanted counceling on an issue regarding Leisure World policy. Log item issued for Leisure World Security.

Criminal Threats—3:52 p.m.—El Dorado Drive, Mutual Unknown—A citizen received a phone call from an individual who became verbally abusive. When the citizen hung up, the suspect called back, said he knows where she lives and was going to destroy her vehicle. Counseled.
Thursday, January 16
Bike—2:47 p.m.—Thunderbird Drive, Mutual Unknown—A 26-inch adult tricycle was stolen between 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. The caller reported the incident to Leisure World Security. The caller had no serial number information. The bike was left parked on the street when it went missing. The caller had no intention of filing an insurance claim. No report desired.

Disturbance, Music—9:45 a.m.—Thunderbird Drive, Mutual Unknown—The caller said a neighbor had been singing opera for the last 45 minutes. According to the caller, the neighbor sings twice a day, for 90 minutes at a time. The caller had spoken with Leisure World Security in the past, but they reportedly did nothing about it. Police unit 107 contacted the opera singing neighbor, who was described as hard of hearing in the dispatch log, and advised the neighbor to keep it down.

Pedestrian Check—12:52 a.m. —Cottonwood and Katella Avenue—Patrol found an elderly and disoriented man who had been reported missing. Patrol reunited him with his family.
Saturday, January 4
Disturbance—8:39 p.m.—Katella Avenue—The caller reported a woman in the parking lot who broke a windshield. The caller was the owner of the car. The woman smashed the windshield believing it was her boyfriend’s car. Vehicle will be repaired by the woman. She was driven home from the bar by a sober friend. No report desired.

Disturbance, Juvenile—10:39 a.m. —Los Alamitos Boulevard—The caller reported an Asian boy who threw liquid on her car. The suspect left location on a skateboard. Caller counseled.

Coyote—7:46 p.m. —Howard and Maple Avenue—The caller reported a coyote just attacked a cat. The caller was referred to Long Beach Police Department. LBPD advised they had several calls referring the same.
