Editor’s note: This week’s Seal Beach Crime Log is based on two detailed versions of the log provided by the Seal Beach Police Department. The combined documents cover the period from July 26 to July 28 and represent 82 pages of information. The Sun omits references to unspecified “incidents” and arrests where no information is available about the alleged office. Combined, the detailed versions of the log covered 201 incidents. Space does not permit the listing of every incident or arrest.

IN SEAL?BEACH

Friday, July 26

• Transient (Priority 3)—6:04 a.m.—Seal Beach Boulevard—The caller reported that a man who was apparently described as a transient was refusing to leave the lobby at the location. Police interviewed him in the field. As of 6:30 a.m., he had left the area.

• Found Property (Priority 4)—7:40 a.m.—Marina Drive—An individual found a purse with a wallet. The individual had not looked inside the wallet to see if there was any identification. The individual apparently brought the purse and wallet to the lobby of Seal Beach Police Department headquarters. Report taken.

• Suspicious Occupied Car (Priority 2)—7:43 a.m.—Ocean Avenue (Old Town)—The caller reported that a woman was sleeping in the driver’s seat of a car that had been present since 10 p.m., Tuesday, July 25. Police contacted the woman, who apparently checked out OK.

• Disturbance, Car (Priority 3)—8:04 a.m.—Seal Beach Boulevard—The caller requested to meet with an officer concerning a driver who allegedly tried to run her off the road. She told police she was standing by in a parking lot. However, police were unable to locate either party to the incident.

• Suspicious Person (Priority 2)—8:53 a.m.—Marina Drive (Old Town)—The caller said a man came into the store who was not making sense, talking about M16s. He was last seen walking northbound on Pacific Coast Highway. Police were unable to locate him.

• Transient (Priority 3)—10:33 a.m.—Main Street and Electric Avenue (Old Town)—The caller, relaying second-hand information, said a transient man located near a tree was playing loud music. Police contacted the man in question and advised/warned/cautioned the man about the noise complaint. As of 10:43 p.m., he had indicated to police that he would turn down the music.

• Grand Theft Report (Priority 3)—12:11 p.m.—First Street—Sometime during the previous night, someone took a bicycle of unknown make and model. As of 12:42 p.m., no units were available. As of 1:19 p.m., police had determined the theft took place between 8 p.m., Tuesday, July 25, and 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, July 26. The value of the stolen property was blacked out in the log.

However, grand theft is defined as the theft of property or cashed valued at more than $950. Report taken.

• Transient (Priority 3)—1:12 p.m.—Oleander Street and Dogwood Avenue (College Park East)—The first caller reported a woman walking southbound wearing all black. The caller expressed concern due to recent crime in the area. A second caller reported that the woman was asking for money and handouts. Police were unable to locate the woman in question.

Saturday, July 27

• Battery Report (Priority 2)—1:54 a.m.—Main Street—The caller located a man who said he was assaulted or robbed about 20 minutes earlier. As of 1:56 p.m., police were told that four or five suspects took the victim’s wallet and left in a car. As of 2:37 p.m., the victim stated a fight took place in the middle of Main Street. Report taken.

• Disturbance (Priority 2)—7:45 a.m.—Marina Drive (Bridgeport)—The caller had a dispute with another man inside the location because the other man had a dog. As of 8:08 a.m., police had counseled all parties to the disturbance.

• Grand Theft Report (Priority 3)—11:52 a.m.—Driftwood Avenue (The Hill)—The caller reported the theft of a generator and an air compressor from the location. Report taken.

• Medical Aid (Priority 1)—12:57 p.m.—Main Street (Old Town)—A man in his mid-20s fell off a scooter and was asking for paramedics.

As of 12:58 p.m., he was unconscious. The caller apparently advised dispatch that he was not wearing a helmet. As of 1:01 p.m., police were on-scene. As of 1:06 p.m., the man was responsive and breathing. Assisted.

• Disturbance (Priority 2)—3:02 p.m.—11th Street—The caller said a man in the alley between 10th and 11th streets was acting suspiciously. The caller said he was talking to himself. As of 3:30 p.m., police determined that no crime had occurred and the man was sent on his way.

• Traffic Hazard (Priority 2)—3:23 p.m.—Westminster Avenue and Seal Beach Boulevard—The caller reported that a bicycle was blocking traffic on Westminster Avenue, apparently west of Seal Beach Boulevard. The caller speculated that the bike might have fallen out of a truck. However, police were unable to locate the alleged bicycle.

Sunday, July 28

• Bicycle Shop (Priority 4)—3:39 a.m.—College Park and Studebaker—Based on a warrant, police arrested Erin Catching on suspicion of possession of illegal drug paraphernalia, falsely identifying herself to a peace officer, and possession of burglary tools.
