Council OKs contract for bike lane gap closure project

The council awarded a contract to Sequel Contractors, Inc. for the Lampson Avenue Bike Lane Gap Closure Project. The contract was for $2,332,420. The council authorized the city manager to approve additional work up to a maximum of $300,000.

The contract will also include “grading, landscaping, mulch and irrigation system for the Tennis & Pickleball Center parking lot planters” and “a 90-day Tennis & Pickleball Center parking lot planter maintenance and establishment period,” according to the staff report.

This was originally a Consent Calendar item, but was pulled for separate consideration.

“In 2016, the City was awarded an Active Transportation Program (“ATP”) grant to construct the Lampson Avenue Bike Lane Gap Closure Project (“Project”),” wrote Public Works Director Iris Lee in her staff report to the council.

“Consistent with the City’s General Plan Circulation Element, the Project will create a Class II (dedicated bike lane) along both directions of Lampson Avenue between Basswood Street and Seal Beach Boulevard, connecting to the existing Class II bike lane heading east towards Valley View Boulevard,” Lee wrote.

“On August 10, 2023, the City solicited bids for the Project, and on September 7, 2023, the City Clerk’s office received two (2) bids,” Lee wrote.
