Committee rejects Bay City proposal

A Seal Beach committee voted 4-1 to recommend that the city deny the Bay City Partners’ request for an amendment to the DWP Specific Plan. Two members of the seven-member committee were absent. However, one absent member sent a letter expressing her support for the original specific plan for the property formerly owned by the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power. Seth Eaker was the only member of the DWP Advisory Committee who voted against rejecting the amendment request.

The committee’s job was to make a recommendation to the city.

Members of the public who packed the City Council Chamber for the meeting applauded the committe’s decision.

The original specific plan called for 70 percent open space and 30 percent hotel. The Bay City Partners, Seal Beach residents who purchased the land from Los Angeles County, do not believe a hotel would be financially viable.

Earlier, Eaker made a motion to accept a modified layout plan for developing residential housing on the property. Eaker’s motion died for lack of a second.

he Environmental Quality Control Board will review the Final Environmental Impact Report for the proposed project next Wednesday. The Seal Beach Planning Commission is scheduled to hold a hearing on the proposed project on May 2.

The final decision belongs to the City Council, which has scheduled two hearings in June.

Details of the meeting are scheduled to be published in the April 26 issue of the Sun.
