The National Weather Service is forecasting a winter storm with strong winds and up to 1-2 inches of rain to arrive late Thursday, Dec. 11, and last into Friday, Dec. 12. The Weather Service has also issued a Beach Hazard Statement that is in effect through the evening of Saturday, Dec. 13, for high surf.

The surf is expected to build through the week, culminating on Friday with 7- to 10-foot waves and sets up to 12 to 14 feet.

The combination of high surf, rain, and strong winds may cause some pooling of water along Seal Way.

City officials advise homeowners to monitor the surf and weather and take the necessary steps to protect their property as they see fit.

Sand bags are a protective measure during any storm and are available at Lifeguard Headquarters, the Liberty Gate on Seal Beach Blvd., Fire Station 44, and Arbor Park.
