The Chick-Fil-A restaurant chain has applied for a permit to open a new eatery in Seal Beach.
According to Senior Planner Jerry Olivera, the Planning Commission has tentatively scheduled a public hearing for Oct. 17 on an application for a conditional use permit. If approved, the new Chick-Fil-A would be built in the Shops at Rossmoor Center south of the 76 station.
Chick-Fil-A has recently been the subject of controversy when a Chick-Fil-A executive expressed opposition to same-sex marriage. The company was founded by a traditional Christian. That is why Chick-Fil-A restaurants are closed on Sundays.
“Going forward, our intent is to leave the policy debate over same-sex marriage to the government and political arena,” said an unsigned answer to a frequently asked question on the topic.
A Chick-Fil-A recently opened in Buena Park and another is scheduled to open in Westminster in November.
