Chamber Corner: Seal Beach Chamber sets sights on 5K/10K races

The Seal Beach Chamber of Commerce and Run Seal Beach are very excited to partner more closely. This economy has been difficult for many businesses in our community.

This year the chamber kicking off a program entitled “Run Back to Seal Beach” to help drive increased business to our local area.

We are doing this by leveraging the participants of the 5K/10K race on Saturday April 2.  The race is one of the best-loved 5K/10K races in Southern California, having over 5,000 participants.

The promotion will run the entire month of April, starting on April 2 and continuing until April 30.

All Seal Beach merchants are welcome to participate. There will be offerings from Merchants on PCH, Shops at Rossmoor and Old Town as well as other areas. To redeem the offer just present your runners bib to participating merchants.

This program hopefully will  help extend the community feeling to all participants and will  help to spur return business to our merchants during the weeks immediately following the race.

The Seal Beach Chamber of Commerce and Run Seal Beach will publish this information on our web-site, complete with merchant name and address and offer.

For additional exposure, information will be posted at the Run Seal Beach registration center on Friday April 1, and Saturday April 2.  There will be over 4,000 people visiting the center who will see this information.

We will post this information at the race Finish Line Vendor area; again, this will be by merchant name and offer.

There will be posters in merchant windows promoting the “Run Back to Seal Beach” program.

The hope is that we drive more business to the merchants, restaurants and services during the month of April.

Thanks to the efforts of Endless Summer, there will also be a sidewalk sale on Main Street on April 2 and 3. Look for those extra special deals that only happen during this limited time.

Local merchants take advantage of chamber membership to generate more business for all.

What do Fred Delli Santi, Nick Paturzo, and Lin Bennett have in common?

They all want to increase local spending at Seal Beach businesses.  Fred and Nick own Endless Summer on Main Street and Lin has been the store manager for the past 32 years. They started business here in 1973 when they purchased “Leto’s.”

Over the years they have seen a lot of changes. The slowness of the economy caused Fred and Nick to re-commit themselves to the community by becoming more active in the Seal Beach Chamber of Commerce. While they are members, they haven’t really been engaged. They decided to make things happen instead of waiting for people to walk in off the street.

Nick called me up one day and said that Endless Summer wanted to get more involved in the chamber and the activities that we put together.

They said that every time that we had a sidewalk sale their sales increased substantially. I said that the chamber is excited when people want to get involved and explained how we are an all-volunteer organization except for a single paid employee.

We have the same people putting on events and running the chamber. New involvement really pumps up other chamber members to get involved. Nick is the driving force behind this sidewalk sale. The sale will kick-off with the 5K/10K crowd on April 2 and also on April 3.

All merchants who have a certificate of insurance on-file with the city will be able to participate.

Chamber members hope folks take advantage of this opportunity because these sales are the only time when they can have merchandise outside of their store on the sidewalk. Save on specially discounted merchandise while supporting local merchants.
