A new Toyota Prius sedan crashed backward through the storefront window of the Petals and Pop flower studio on Seal Beach Main Street in the early afternoon of Wednesday, Oct. 2. A police spokesman said no alcohol or drugs were involved. Police received the call at 12:34 p.m.
Gonshak said the driver was pulling out of a parking space, put the car in reverse and apparently stepped on the gas instead of the break. Gonshak said the incident was possibly medically related, but there were no alcohol or drugs involved.
The main counter of the store was crushed under the rear wheels of a large vehicle. The car was new. It did not appear that anyone suffered life-threatening injuries. Seal Beach Police officers were on the scene minutes after employees and patrols of businesses on the 200 block of Main Street heard the crash. However, medics were called for. The Orange County Fire Authority also responded.
Business owner Theresa Anderson was pulled out of the path of the car by a Los Alamitos resident. According to Sgt. Phil Gonshak, public information officer for the Seal Beach Police Department said a witness who pulled the business owner to safety suffered minor injuries to her arm, but nothing life threatening.
Anderson, a wedding florist from Long Beach, created the shop to cater to brides-to-be. Creating bouquets and designing flower arrangements originally started out as a hobby, which grew into passion.
The store opened for business on Monday, Aug. 26 and only recently celebrated its grand opening.
