Agents at Keller Williams Realty Los Alamitos are looking to make going to school a little easier for homeless and poverty-level children in the local area.

They will once again be lending a hand by  participating in the office’s 10th annual ‘Back To School’ project and are asking the local community for help.

“We are looking for a variety of items to help these kids,” said Drake Cruz.

“Being homeless is a circumstance that is beyond the control of a child.  We are trying to help provide the tools that lead to a bright future for these kids.”

Cruz and  Jessica Anaya are spearheading the collection drive.

The ‘Back To School’ project  will be collecting donations until Sept. 2, 2015. “What we do is ask agents, clients and the community for help in buying school supplies to help these students,” said Anaya.

“We need backpacks, pencils, pens, markers, notebooks, paper and so many other items donated to help the kids.”

Items in great need and on the wish list include: backpacks, student planners, 3-ring binders, printer paper, flash drives, school uniforms, shoes, toiletries, deodorant, scientific calculators, all school supplies except scissors, gently used belts of all sizes, Navy Blue Pants, Shorts, Skirts with elastic waists (size 12-20), Khaki Pants, Shorts, Skirts with elastic waists (Adult Men And Junior Girls Sizes) and Black Pants & Shorts (size 12-18, Adult Men’s Sized, Junior Girls Sizes).

“If you don’t have time to shop, let us do it for you,” added Cruz.

“We will accept cash, checks and gift cards. Preferred store for gift cards are 99 Cent Store, Dollar Tree, Walmart and Target.”

“KW Los Alamitos is involved with many organizations in the community but the agents embraced this one right away,” said Elaine Armogida CEO/Team Leader at KW Los Alamitos.

“We like to be a positive influence in the local community.”

“We know we are making a difference for these kids,” said Armogida.

“It’s tough enough going to a new school and a simple thing like a new backpack can make the difference whether these kids  avoid embarrassment or the stigma and stay in school.”

Donations can be dropped off at KW Los Alamitos at 10900 Los Alamitos Blvd (behind Hof’s Hut).
