A welcome addition to the Greenbelt

SBFDC Directors Nancey Kredell, Marc Loopesko, and Carla Watson.

The Seal Beach Founders Day Committee recently donated and installed a new bench at the iconic Red Car on the Greenbelt at the corner of Electric Avenue and Eighth Street. The previous bench disappeared in 2021, leaving an empty space in need of one. The committee ordered the bench through the city government. The bench cost $3,700. The process took four months.

“The new bench is for all residents and visitors to enjoy and use while looking at our Red Car and thinking of our history,” said Carla Watson, director of the Seal Beach Founders Day Committee. “Please enjoy, look to the future and remember the past efforts by many residents who have worked tirelessly through the years to preserve the greenbelt and the quaintness of our wonderful city.”

Unknown to most current residents, the Founders Day Committee has been active for more than 50 years, planning events for the community to celebrate our founding in 1915. They were the leaders and instrumental in guiding the 100th Celebration in 2015.  In addition, since 1995 the Committee has donated over $150,000 to the City Park and Recreation Department supporting fitness and recreation programs and facilities.

The inscription on the bench reads; “Given in gratitude for all the years of history already made, and the history yet to come. From the hearts of the Seal Beach Founders Day Committee”
