Hill resident Ed Hirsch’s Halloween display features a structure meant to be the Seal Beach pier that is decorated with trash and debris he and others collected in recent weeks from the local beach and along the San Gabriel River. The dirty decor includes plastic bottles, mylar balloons, lighters and more. Neighbor Martin Van Dine used repurposed wood to construct the display which can be walked through. Both men say the decorations are intended to teach kids about plastic pollution in our community but it’s also about having a fun Halloween. “They’re all stoked to see it,” Hirsch said of the trick-or-treaters. “There’s no shame or blame,” Van Dine said. “This is all of us.”
