A look at city labor contracts

The city approved agreements with two employee organizations at the Monday, April 22, council meeting.

The memorandums of understanding (or contracts in plain English) between Seal Beach and some employee organizations have expired or will expire. The Sun obtained the MOUs by downloading them from the city website.

Labor negotiations have been taking place at the same time as the city is gearing up for the budget process.

Recently approved

As part of this week’s Consent Calendar, Seal Beach has approved new MOUs with the Mid-Management and Confidential Employees Association and the Seal Beach Supervisors & Professionals Association. Both agreements have been renewed through June 30, 2025.

The agreements with both groups expired June 30, 2022.

Will expire

• The MOU with the Seal Beach Marine Safety Management Association expires June 30, 2024. It was last adopted July 1, 2021.

•The MOU with the Orange County Employees Association expires June 30, 2025. It was last adopted March 13, 2023.

Have expired

Seal Beach is negotiating with the following groups. The City Council had a conference with city negotiators about labor negotiations with this group during the April 8, 2024 closed session of the council meeting.

• The MOU with the Seal Beach Police Management Association expired June 30, 2023. It was last adopted July 1, 2020.

• The MOU with the Seal Beach Police Officers Association expired June 30, 2023.
