Riverside resident Janet Balin caught the largest fish in the 12 to 15 age group at the annual Los Alamitos/Seal Beach Rotary Club Youth Fishing Derby. Balin’s 15 ounce bat ray was the only ray among the winning entries in the traditional fishing derby held at the Seal Beach Pier on Saturday, Aug. 24.
Winners received trophies and fishing rods. Patricia Eskenazi, of the Los Alamitos/Seal Beach Rotary Club said participants probably caught more fish this year than last year. She said about 30 fish were caught during the youth fishing competition. The event was free.
