Los Alamitos Unified School District his hired a new superintendent. The school district board of trustees recently announced the appointment of Dr. Sherry Kropp to the superintendent’s position effective July 1.
Kropp was approved unanimously and given a four-year contract. She replaces departing Superintendent Greg Franklin. Kropp has worked in the district since 1985 and filled several positions including teacher, site administrator, and assistant superintendent. Kropp has been the assistant superintendent of educational services for the past six years.
“The board is extremely pleased to have someone of Dr. Kropp’s caliber at the helm of the district,” said Karen Russell, school board president.
“Sherry has been integral to the district’s ongoing success, and we’re looking forward to working with her in this new role,” Russell said.
The new superintendent also seemed pleased. “I am extremely honored to be the superintendent in Los Alamitos. I love this district,” Kropp said. “I look forward to working with our exceptional Board of Education, teachers, staff, parents, and community providing the very best education for students. I can’t think of a better place to live, work, or go to school.”
To fill the vacancy created by Kropp’s promotion, the board made Patricia Meyer, assistant superintendent of business services, the district’s new deputy superintendent. “With Sherry as superintendent and Patti as deputy, the district is well situated to continue on its current path of academic achievement and responsible stewardship of taxpayer dollars,” Russell said.
