A new business is blooming on Main Street in Seal Beach. Petals and Pop, a flower studio, opened for business on Monday, Aug. 26. The grand opening will be held later next month.
Theresa Anderson, a wedding florist from Long Beach, has a new studio that caters to brides-to-be. Creating bouquets and designing flower arrangements originally started out as a hobby, which grew into passion.
After working as a pharmaceutical representative, she quit her job and opened Peony and Petal from an old Indian rice paddy, and transformed her garage into a working studio, inviting clients from south Orange County in to pick out arrangements and sip on champagne.
Anderson and her husband John also have a love for vintage soda pop, and have an array of different and exotic flavors in her studio, putting the Pop in Petals and Pop.
The accordion doors on the studio’s front window create an inviting feel to allow shoppers to peruse the displays and purchase flowers as well as goods for the garden and kitchen. Anderson was inspired by a close family friend, Auntie Marsha.
“Everything here has a connection to her. She showed me tricks and is an inspiration to the work I do,” Anderson said.
Community is also very important to her as well, by purchasing from local growers and hiring local community members to work in the shop.
“I am here today to support local business and welcome a new member to the community,” said Sarah Nicola, a Seal Beach resident. “The chocolate doesn’t hurt either.”
Members of the community stopped by to welcome Petals and Pop to the neighborhood, including Laura Green, who is a big supporter of local business. “Main Street needed this, and I am excited to see what comes next for Petals and Pop.”
Peony and Petal operates from within Petals and Pop, and the owners plan to begin offering classes to the community in October.
The grand opening and ribbon cutting will be taking place sometime in September. “I have always wanted a flower shop, and now the dream has come true,” said Anderson.
“The creative process is something I love. Flowers should be a part of everyday life; they give such beautiful ambience to everyday activities,” she said.
