Seal Beach Police officers arrested a Bakersfield man early Thursday morning, Sept. 5, for a hit and run that resulted in the injury of a motorcyclist.
At about 12:27 a.m., callers told police that a pick up truck struck a motorcycle and the cyclist was down in the intersection of Pacific Coast Highway and Anderson Street in Seal Beach.
The callers said that the motorcyclist appeared to have serious injuries, and that the driver of the truck fled the scene on foot.
Officers arrived and found the rider at the scene, gravely injured.  Orange County Fire Authority paramedics treated him at the scene and he was transported to a local hospital, where he was admitted in serious condition.
Both Seal Beach and Huntington Beach police officers began searching the area for the driver. According to the Seal Beach Police Department, the suspected driver was located after a local resident overheard him on his cell phone, explaining to someone that he had just been involved in a serious accident.
Nathan Teixeira, 31, of Bakersfield, was taken into custody without incident. Teixeira was booked at the Seal Beach Detention Center. Teixeira was charged with hit and run driving, and driving under the influence, causing injury.  He was released after posting $50,000 bail.
Investigation revealed that the motorcyclist was traveling northbound on Pacific Coast Highway in the number two lane. Teixeira was driving a full size pickup truck, traveling southbound on Pacific Coast Highway.  According to a statement prepared by Sgt. Ron La Valle, public information officer for the SBPD, it appeared that Teixeira failed to yield to the motorcycle, while he was attempting to enter a private driveway, and the two collided.
Police are asking anyone who may have information critical to the investigation to call Officer Jeff Gibson at 562/799-4100, extension 1641.
