McGaugh Elementary teachers Mrs. Williams, Mrs. Martin, Mrs. Bailey, and Mrs. Eckert won the contest to see which classrooms could collect the most box tops.
Students in winning classrooms received Free Kids Meal Gift Certificates to Macaroni Grill, O’Malley’s on Main, or Taco Surf. Teachers in winning classrooms also received a DVD donated by Joe Ferraro-Shey for their classroom collection.
Box Tops for Education is a national fundraising program that awards schools 10 cents per box top on participating products. The three-week contest raised $1,224.60, which will help fund McGaugh’s art lab and media center. “Our goal is to raise $6,000 this year from Box Tops,” said Christina Chafe, who coordinates the program with neighbor Dani Junkes.
In addition to collecting box tops in the classrooms, Christina and Dani have placed collection boxes in the community at Pavilions, Javatinis, Island Village, and Leisure World.
