Crime Log: Harbor Patrol rescues woman off Seal Beach Pier

A woman fell or jumped off the Seal Beach Pier late Wednesday night, Oct. 30. She was taken to a hospital after she was pulled out of the Pacific Ocean.

An individual was fishing in the area when the incident occurred.

Seal Beach Police received the call at about 11:03 p.m. According to the log, the caller said the woman fell into the water from the location where boats dock alongside the pier.

The caller reportedly said the woman went over the barricades.

The caller thought the woman might be drunk.

At 11:30 p.m., the log reported that someone was trying to get the woman a rope.

At that time, the log said that the Orange County Sheriff’s Department Harbor Patrol was en route.

The Sheriff’s Department website said that a unit was dispatched to the scene at 11:13 p.m. It was at that very time that, according to the Seal Beach log, the woman wrapped herself around one of the pillar’s supporting the pier.

The log said that Long Beach Harbor Patrol was on another call near the port area and that the Sheriff’s Harbor Patrol was closer.

The woman was on the Sheriff’s Department boat by 11:22 p.m.

Seal Beach Marine Safety (Lifeguard) Chief Joe Bailey said the Sheriff’s Department took the woman to Huntington Harbor and from there the Orange County Fire Authority took her to a hospital.
