The high school diving season opened Thursday, March 27, with a win for Griffin girls divers. Two-time Sunset League Champion Madelyn “Dolly” Payne won the six-dive varsity contest with 252.95 points.
The Los Al junior was joined on the medals stand by sophomore, with Sydney Strickland winning silver. Senior McKenna Cote finished fourth and senior Sydney Eaton finished seventh. Los Alamitos divers are in a good position to continue their Sunset League winning streak especially since one of their expected top divers, Nicole Bliss, didn’t compete in week-one competition.
The freshman is also a track star.
Diving and track coaches work closely to assure Bliss will be able to attend the maximum events in both sports.
