The Los Alamitos High swim team recently won the Sunset League title, going undefeated to do the deed.
The win at the Sunset League Finals, which unfolded at Marina High on Saturday, May 4, was extra special because it marked the last season for Los Alamitos head coach Dave Carlson.
In boys’ individual competition, Los Alamitos featured a handful of victories and top finishes.
Matt Drum won the 200-freestyle (1:41.68) and teammate Brad Gonzales (1:41.79) delivered a runner-up finish. Gonzales later won the 500-yard free at 4:28.18.
Sprinter Chandler Jarrelsv won the 50-yard free with a time of 21.60 and Brad Toland bested the 100-yard butterfly field at 50.62. Christian Searing stroked his way to third in the 100-yard free (48.10). In girls’ action, Los Al’s Niqueline Rettberg won the 200-yard freestyle (1:53.04) and teammate Sabrina Anderson (1:56.36) finished in second place. Rettbert also emerged victorious in the 500-yard free (4:59.39).
Sprinter Lynea Baudino topped the 50-yard freestyle (23.84) and ended in third in the 100-yard freestyle (53.42).
Miranda Rouse delivered a CIF qualifying time in the 200-yard IM, taking second at 2:09.00.
She also delivered a runner-up effort in the 500-free.
Her male counterpart Chris Viera also finished as the runner-up in the 200 IM, clocking 1:53.67. Both contributed 17 points to their team.
Holly Fosmire placed third in the 100-yard butterfly (59.48), Fosmire later won the 100-yard backstroke (59.09), which the Griffins swept the top three spots. Sydney Anderson finished in second and Lindsay Gill grabbed third place. Brad Toland took second place in the 100-yard breastroke, timing 1:00.46. Teammate Max Merrill ended in third. Both the boys’ and girls’ 400-yard freestyle teams finished in second place.
