Top-rated non-profit The Youth Center in Los Alamitos offers very flexible and affordable Summer Day and Teen Camps out of Rossmoor Park as it partners for another year with the Rossmoor Community Service District. Camp registration is going on now.

Parents can choose to send their 5 to 12 year old children to Summer Day Camp for one to two days a week or for an entire week at a time. They are also offered the flexibility and choice of Basic Day Camp hours from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. or Extended Day Camp hours from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Day Camp begins on June 15 and runs until Aug. 28. Register early by May 30, and your child will receive a free camp t-shirt.

Costs have been held down to the same price as the last three years with one week of Summer Day Camp running $99 for Basic Day Camp hours, and $124 for Extended Day Camp hours.

“I’m excited for the kids this year,” said Summer Day Camp Director Judy Nunez.  “We are going to have a lot more new, exciting activities with special days this year.”

Special activities include  a puppy party, face-painting, talent shows, creative contests, Wheels Day (where they can bring their bike, roller skates and skateboards), plus a healthy Snack Bar this year to fuel their summer along. Campers will experience unique and fun international holidays, do beautiful arts and crafts, play sports like basketball, baseball and dodgeball, and more.

Optional field trips take campers to places like Knott’s Berry Farm, Soak City, Griffith Observatory, Medieval Times, Pump It Up, Reptile Zoo, an Angel’s Baseball game, and more. Trips run from $17 to $39, depending on which outing is selected.

Teen Camp for children ages 12 to 17 years old offers campers the choice of their own personally chosen weekly activities planning each Monday morning.

“Teen Camp is not your ordinary camp,” said Teen Camp Director Hans Lumme.

“It’s a fun and interactive camp where the kids are constantly on the go.

What’s really neat is how the kids are a part of the decision-making as to what they want to do.”

Besides the trips they get to choose, Teen Camp offers planned field trips to Catalina Island, Disneyland, Universal Studios, Crystal Cove, whale watching, an Angel’s Baseball game, and more.

Days for Teen Camp begin and end at Rossmoor Park. Sign-ups are going on now and space is limited to 15 participants each week. Teen Camp runs for 10 weeks beginning June 15 to Aug. 10, and costs $239 per week.
