Sunset Beach has a New Honorary Dog Mayor for 2022: Diamond Hope. Natalie Hope’s cute, lovable canine Diamond will represent the community at local events and in the famous Huntington Beach 4th of July Parade. Diamond, an unknown breed, will be sworn in and have her photo displayed at the Nobles Family Community Center on January 6th.
“The Honorary Mayor contest was conceived last year, partly due to the pandemic,” said Mike Van Voorhis, former Community Association president.
“With our usual fundraising activities canceled, such as the Chili Cook-off and Firehouse Ball, we needed to raise money for the Community Center,” he said
Candidates pay $150 entry fee and spend $1 per vote. Last year, Phil, the lovable bloodhound, was elected. Sadly, two months into his term, he died unexpectedly.
“We’re so excited to welcome our new honorary Mayor,” said Association Vice President Dawn McCormack.
“Diamond proves that small is often beautiful and the best. She’ll do a great job representing our unique community,” McCormack said.
