The Seal Beach Police Department is asking the public to help them identify a man and a woman they believe are responsible for multiple car burglaries. Surveillance video caught the suspects breaking into cars and stealing property including credit cards that were later used at multiple retail stores.
Suspect 1: a Caucasian man, mid-20s, about 5 feet 10 inches, medium build, dark hair, unshaven, wearing black wide rim glasses, and a tattoo on right forearm.
Suspect 2: a Caucasian woman, early to mid-20s, about 5 feet 4 inches, larger build, long dark hair worn in a ponytail, wearing black wide rim glasses.
Their car: a 2014-2015 silver or beige Kia Sorento. Call Detective Samantha Mathias at 562-799-4100 ext. 1108.

Wednesday, August 1
Transient (Priority 3)—6:05 a.m.—Marina Drive and Second Street (Old Town)—The caller said a man on a bike, who the caller apparently believed to be a transient, was talking to himself and smoking marijuana. He was last seen going eastbound on Marina from Second Street as of 6:07 a.m. According to the log, as of 6:24 a.m., no units were available. Police unit 107 arrived in the area at 6:49 a.m. Police were unable to locate the man. Incident response time: 44 minutes 16 seconds.
Suspicious Occupied Car (Priority 2)—6:16 a.m.—Rose Circle (College Park East)—The caller reported two men in a truck that had parked approximately 10 minutes earlier. They were not familiar to the caller, who was not in the area. Police unit 106 responded alone and found a construction crew waiting for the residents of a home in the vicinity. Incident response time: 28 minutes 55 seconds.
Hail by Citizen (Priority 3)—11:17 p.m.—Pacific Coast Highway—An individual apparently flagged down police unit 207 about a suspicious woman at the location. Police units 206 and S21 joined 207 at the location. The woman in question apparently checked out. She was advised of the bus schedule and sent on her way. No incident response time was provided.
Traffic Stop (Priority 4)—11:32 a.m.—Seal Beach Boulevard and Apollo Drive—Police unit S21 stopped a car. Polce unit 206 apparently provided back up. As of 11:55 p.m., S21 requested a tow truck. Police arrested Darren Smith on suspicion of drunken driving. No incident response time was provided.
Thursday, August 2
Keep the Peace (Priority 3)—7:30 a.m.—College Park Drive (College Park West)—The caller requested a police officer stand by while he picked up his last pay check. The caller reportedly told dispatch that his former boss had threatened to put him in the hospital. Assisted. Police unit 106 responded alone. Incident response time: 27 minutes 13 seconds.
Found Property (Priority 4)—9:46 a.m.—Fifth Street and Electric Avenue—The caller reported finding needles in a plastic bag near the gutter. The caller was no longer in the area as of 9:47 a.m. Police unit 107, responding alone, found no syringes in the bag. Unit 107 was en route at 11:09 a.m. Unit 107 instead found oral medication dispensers for animals. The officer put the bag and its contents in the trash. The officer was on-scene 7 minutes 46 seconds. Incident response time: 1 hour 22 minutes 56 seconds.
Attempted Burglary (Priority 3)—11:52 a.m.—Golden Rain Road (Leisure World)—The caller reported an attempted burglary. Someone broke a window in apparent attempt to take the caller’s air conditioning unit. As of noon, no units were available. Police unit 106 was en route at 1:45 p.m. The caller was counseled and provided with an event number. Police unit 106 responded alone. Incident response time: 2 hours 5 minutes 39 seconds.
Counseling (Priority 3)—Noon—Columbine Street—A resident of Columbine Street came to police headquarters with a problem. He paid a contractor for exterior work on his house. The city stopped the work because there were no permits for the work. The Seal Beach man had not heard from the contractor and had made several attempts to contact the contractor. Police unit M6 arrived at 12:42 p.m. The officer counseled the citizen that this was a civil issue regarding work done at the man’s home. Incident response time: 42 minutes 46 seconds.
Pedestrian Check (Priority 3)—6:43 p.m.—Pacific Coast Highway (Chase Bank)—Police unit 241 observed an individual sleeping in the bank parking lot. Police units 207 and S21 joined 207. Based on a warrant, police arrested Ryan Michael Zimmerman on suspicion of possession of illegal drug paraphernalia. No incident response time provided.
Fridday, August 3
Suspicious Person (Priority 2)—12:56 p.m.—Seal Beach Boulevard—The caller said a man and a woman kept pacing back and forth. The caller phoned back at 1:03 p.m. to report that they got into a car in the parking lot.
As of 1:07 p.m., police unit contacted them. Police unit 107 was joined by units 106, M6 and S24. Police arrested Matthew Abbey on susipicion of possession of illegal drug paraphernalia and suspicion of possession of a controlled substance formerly classified as a dangerous drug. Incident response time: 8 minutes 50 seconds.
Traffic Hazard Reported (Priority 3)—5:25 p.m.—Agua Place and Marline Avenue—The caller said kids were playing in the street with ramps. Police unit M6 responded. Police unit 107 was available for back up but apparently did not arrive. Police unit M6 determined there was no traffic hazard. The parents were present with the kids and had the kids move when cars came. Incident response time: 6 minutes 34 seconds.
Disturbance, Party (Priority 3)—11:15 p.m.—Ocean Avenue—The anonymous caller complained about a loud party at the location.
Police unit 241 responded to the call, although unit 207 was available for back up. Police unit 241 apparently advised/warned/counseled the person responsible for the party about the noise complaint. Incident response time: 6 minutes.
Saturday, August 4
Found Property (Priority 4)—1:33 p.m.—Electric Avenue (Old Town)—The caller reported finding marijuana at the location. Police unit 107 collected the property for destruction. Incident response time: 18 minutes 33 seconds.
Petty Theft (Priority 2)—6:24 p.m.—Seal Beach Boulevard—The caller reported that a suspect took plant pottery, liquor bottles and other items. The suspect broke the lock to the rear door and left the business. Police units 206 and S21 responded. Unit 206 determined that when a witness tried to stop the suspect, the suspect’s car veered at the witness. Incident response time: 11 minutes 53 seconds.
Animal Welfare Check (Priority 3)—8:25 p.m.—Ocean Avenue—The caller reported seeing a man and a woman walking toward the ocean with three dogs. One dog was described as a pitbull. The caller said the man kicked the pitbull several times in the chest. The caller expressed concern for the pitbull. Police units 207 and 241 both responded, but neither of them was able to locate the humans or animals in question. Incident response time: 14 minutes 11 seconds.
Welfare Check (Priority 2)—9:05 p.m.—12th Street (Old Town)—The caller requested a check on the well-being of the caller’s grandmother. The caller believed grandmother locked herself out of her home. Police attempted to call her but had no answer as of 9:08 p.m. Police unit S21 responded alone. It turned out that the caller’s grandmother was OK. She was staying with a neighbor. The granddaughter would call a locksmith to open grandmother’s door. Someone else would call the management company. Incident response time: 10 minutes 19 seconds.
Sunday, August 5
Brush Fire (Priority 1)—5:37 p.m.—Seal Beach Boulevard and Pacific Coast Highway—The caller reported mulch on fire on the center divider of Seal Beach Boulevard, north of Pacific Coast Highway. As of 5:38 p.m., the Orange County Fire Authority was en route. As of 5:39 p.m., a second caller reported only seeing smoke so far. As of 5:47 p.m., the fire was out. Police unit 241 responded alone. Incident response time: 6 minutes 2 seconds.
Petty Theft (Priority 2)—9:34 p.m.—Marina Drive (Old Town)—The caller reported a petty theft by two juveniles of unspecified gender and age. A second caller reported following the suspects to First and Ocean. As of 9:38 p.m., the second caller’s husband blocked their car in and told them they needed to wait. As of 9:40 p.m., the juveniles reportedly wanted to leave. As of 9:41 p.m., a clerk at the store told police that the loss was beer, possibly a 12 pack of cans. As of 9:42 p.m., the clerk had to contact the store owner to find out if the owner wanted to prosecute the juveniles. As of 9:52 p.m., police units 206 and 207 (providing back up) had four juveniles detained. As of 10:26 p.m., police were waiting for the parents of the juveniles. Unit 207 advised dispatch that the store would not prosecute the juveniles. Incident response time: 13 minutes 2 seconds.

Car Burglary (Priority 3)—11:18 a.m.—12th Street (Old Town)—The caller said that sometime overnight someone stole the center console from the caller’s car. Point of entry: unknown. Police unit 107 responded alone. Incident response time: 6 minutes 14 seconds.
