The application to hold a weekly market on the 200 block of Main Street has been withdrawn. Assistant City Manager Patrick Gallegos confirmed this afternoon, Wednesday, June 6, that the request for a special event permit to hold a weekly market throughout the summer had been withdrawn.
Tim Kelsey, Seal Beach’s recreation manager said the special event application was withdrawn by the city because of feedback received and “valid questions for which we don’t yet have answers.”
Kelsey said after receiving feedback both for and against the proposal, they have concluded “this is not the right time to move forward” with a proposed Farmer’s market.
The city “wants to do something” but is not sure even if a farmer’s market is the right direction.
Kelsey said the city is “anxious to assist the merchant community but wants to make sure any proposals serve the best interests of merchants and residents.
“We think this will require more study so we cooperatively (with partners) withdrew the proposal,” said Kelsey.
