The Long Beach Chapter (Susan B Anthony) of the Daughters of American Revolution held an awards ceremony recently for its annual essay contest for the local 5th-, 6th-, 7th- and 8th-graders. The theme was “The Transcontinental Railroad: The Day the Golden Spike was Pounded In.”
Pictured above is Susan B. Anthony chapter chairperson, Marilyn Boone and the winner of the 5th-grade division Marjorie Rhodes, a 5th-grade student at Weaver Elementary School in Los Alamitos. Marjorie’s essay will now go onto the next level. Also in attendance was Marjorie’s 5th-grade teacher, Mrs. Kwalk and Weaver school principle Mrs. Kominsky, along with both her parents.
