Stylish Solutions: Choosing hair conditioner for mother and daughter

Dear Lisa,

My daughter and I were discussing shampoos and conditioners. She is 15 years old and has normal hair with no color. However, mine is highlighted.

I have been highlighting my hair for year. Currently we both use whatever is in the bathroom.

We would like for you to recommend the best type of shampoos and conditioners for us both as my hair is really dry and hers is not.

When we go into the beauty supply, I do not know where to start. There is so much to choose from, we were wondering what would you recommend?

Carol Hicks

Seal Beach

Hi Carol,

Yes, there are many ranges for all different hair types and the choice is sometimes hard to get right.

However, I have recently used a wonderful product by Bed Head and it’s called Urban Anti+Dotes. These shampoos come in three perfectly prescribed levels, depending on the hair type and condition.

They include: Re-Energize, Recovery and Resurrection

For your daughter, I would highly recommend Urban Anti+Dotes Re-Energize as this is for normal hair that perhaps needs a daily pick-me-up.

It is a hydrating shampoo that cleanses while boosting the hair’s overall strength and shine.

It also works to seal and smooth the hair cuticles and as a result the hair is left feeling smooth but strong with a brilliant shine.

In conjunction with this, I would also use the Urban Anti+Dotes Re-Energize conditioner created with more than 25 percent moisture boosting ingredients.

This is a lightweight conditioner that adds shine. It will also help detangle and the Bahama Mama Shot leaves the hair feeling very fresh.

The Urban Anti+Dotes Recovery range is for hair that is dry and damaged that needs some moisture put back.

The shampoo has goji berry and papaya scent and is a medium weight shampoo that cleanses and conditions and also thickens your hair while adding moisture.

The conditioner also protects the hair from heat while adding intense shine. Recovery has anti-static and shine properties. It is wonderful at fighting frizz and helps prevent split ends.

For you, I would recommend the Urban Anti+Dotes Resurrection.  This is for hair that needs an intense resurrection and the powerful packed shampoo.

Resurrection contains micro shields that boost hair and stamina.

It is perfect for very highlighted hair or dry and damaged hair.

Resurrection has a fresh papaya scent and will give intense hydration to your hair and again will protect the hair from thermal use.

The conditioner is for hair that needs an intense intervention and again the micro shields strengthen hair from the inside out protecting it from thermal damage and color fading.

This ultra-reparative conditioner will leave your hair feeling strong restored, refreshed and strengthened.

These products can be purchased in most beauty supply stores. You will certainly feel the difference in your hair so have fun and welcome the urban in your life.

The buzz on adding length

Dear Lisa,

I have my graduation coming up soon and my hair is medium length.

I am blonde and I really want to have my hair longer so I can pull some of it back and have some down. Some people have mentioned hair extensions to me, but I am nervous to have them put in my hair. I only want them for one evening. Is there anything I can do without it being permanent and that will look good just for that evening?

Thanks,

Jessie Sterns

Long Beach

Hi Jessie,

Yes I agree with you—to have extensions put in your hair when really you only want the effect for one evening is not the way to go.

I have the perfect solution for you to ensure you have the look and length you want for your graduation.

There are wonderful integration hairpieces that you can purchase and use over and over again.

I would highly recommend buying real hair as you can shampoo and style these.

Integration hairpieces can blend in really well with your own hair.

Most beauty supply shops have a range of these hairpieces and they come in all different colors and lengths.

It is important to ensure to match your hair color as closely as possible.

Some hairpieces come in ponytails and some come on clips that simply attach to your own hair underneath. I would recommend visiting a salon and perhaps having your hair styled and the hairpiece incorporated by a professional. This will ensure that you will not see where the hairpiece is attached.

The stylist can also balance how much hair you want back and do it so it stays for the whole evening for you.

You will certainly get use from it in the future. So from your graduation to perhaps having a longer ponytail for an evening or just adding some thickness, these truly are a great investment for anyone who wants to change up their look on a temporary basis.

Congratulations and have a wonderful evening.

Thanks,

Lisa
