The Orange County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved an increase in the street sweeping ticket from $14 to $42 on Tuesday, Dec. 15.
The “bail schedule” for other unincorporated areas of the county averages $30, while Rossmoor’s rate has remained unchanged since the inception of the district, according to a statement issued by the Rossmoor Community Services District.. The stated purpose of the increase was to provide a uniform bail schedule throughout the county, but also to make the overall bail schedule more comparable to cities in the county.
The increased bail/fine is expected to bring increased general revenue to the county. However, RCSD General Manager Henry Taboada points out that the position of community services officer (the ticket writer) has been eliminated from the North County Patrol Bureau’s budget.
“It seems penny wise and pound foolish to cut the position that can pay for itself and is directly linked to our objective of clean streets,” Taboada told the supervisors.
