The Orange County Fire Authority plans to sell Fire Station 3 in Sunset Beach.
Staff members made the plan public in a report to Fire Authority board of directors on Thursday, Sept. 23. Staff gave the board an update on transferring Sunset Beach area emergency services to the city of Huntington Beach.
“The Orange County Fire Authority has provided fire and emergency services to Sunset Beach for over 60 years,” the report said.
“Over the next several months, the Fire Authority will be working with the County of Orange, LAFCO and the city of Huntington Beach for the transfer of emergency services and finalizing an agreement for the city’s continued coverage of the area and Bolsa Chica.
The annexation is set to take place on or around January 1, 2011,” the report said.
The report said Fire Authority staff would hire a real estate agent to sell the Sunset Beach fire station.
“Fire Station 3 is an older facility and with the annexation will no longer be needed for the OCFA,” the report said. “We have been contacted by several organizations that have an interest in purchasing this facility for future needs.”
“Marketing and sale of the building will probably take place only after all other negotiations relative to Sunset Beach have been concluded,” the report said.
The sale of Fire Station 3 is expected to generate about $1 million in revenue for the Fire Authority.
