Seal Beach Lifeguards performed one rescue and three boat rescues during the week ending Thursday, March 14, according to Marine Safety (Lifeguard) Chief Joe Bailey’s report to the city manager. Lifeguards responded to three medical aid calls and treated four stingray injuries from March 8 to March 15, according to the Bailey report.
“The weather has varied from cold and overcast to hot and clear over the last week. Starting on Wednesday 3/14/12 a new NW swell has started to show up in Seal Beach. This swell will continue to build into the weekend with 4-6foot waves expected on Sunday,” Bailey wrote.
The Winter Sand berm is scheduled to be deconstructed next week starting on Tuesday, March 20. The West beach will be closed during heavy equipment use, according to Bialy.
“The Los Alamitos and Long Beach School districts will be out on Spring Break the week of April 9th. Long Beach State’s Spring Break is scheduled for April 23rd to the 27th,” Bailey wrote.
Seal Beach Marine Safety / Lifeguard tryouts will be held on Saturday, April 14. Starting at 8 a.m., applicants will compete in a pier swim and run-swim-run. The most physically capable applicants will be invited into a Lifeguard training academy.
Junior Lifeguard preparation and conditioning classes will start on April 2 and the Junior Lifeguard swim test will be held in May.
“We will be accepting pool lifeguard applications shortly. Applicants must be at least 16 years of age and have an American Red Cross Lifeguard certification,” Bailey wrote.
